From the Principal's Office
Dear St. Joseph's RCS Families,

As the second quarter comes to an ends the school is as busy as ever. We are currently working on our mid-year Scantron testing. We have a Family Night Out at Hard Times Café this Thursday, January 14th. We also will have the school Geography Bee this Friday, before our Noon dismissal. Now that the weather has turned cold, please remind your children about bringing their jackets, hats, and gloves to make sure they are staying warm during arrival, dismissal, and outdoor recess.

Reenrollment is open for the 2016-2017 school year. For more information please find the Registration section in the newsletter. This information can also be found by following the link on our twitter page, the school website.

We continue focus on improving our math abilities and performance. I hope the ideas I shared and the website can be helpful. The website I shared can be found
HERE. With a common focus, we can make extraordinary gains! STUDY THOSE MATH FACTS!

SCANTRON TESTING
has begun, and the testing schedule has been updated. Please make sure you are aware of when your child is testing, and allow them to get a good night's rest and healthy breakfast! You can find the link to the page on the school website HERE
.
I hope that all of you are working with me on developing a growth mindset. Over the remainder of the year I will share some of my training with you through Mr. Hooker's Math and Fitness Challenge. Any student that figures out the answer each week can come to me to get a prize from my prize box. I'll also give prizes to students that create their own math and fitness problem based on their own exercise. Here is this week's challenge.

Mr. Hooker's Math and Fitness Challenge: It takes Mr. Hooker eight minutes and three seconds (8:03) to run one mile. If he keeps this pace, how long will it take him to run 8 miles?

Bonus (two prizes): If Mr. Hooker runs the same pace (8:03) per mile. How much longer will it take him to run 13 miles?

Registration
2016-2017 Student Registration

St. Joseph's Regional Catholic School and the Archdiocese of Washington Catholic Schools Office are using TADS, an on-line system, for re-registration and new student enrollment. Current families have received an e-mail from TADS/St. Joseph's Regional Catholic School. Please follow that link in the e-mail to complete the re-registration forms for your family. This link is unique for your family.

The Parish Verification and the Agreement for Parish Service & Support forms are available on the TADS website and need to be completed and returned to the school office as part of the re-registration process. All families must complete the Parish Verification Form. The Agreement for Parish Support & Service must be completed by all practicing Catholic families. Parishioners of St. Hugh of Grenoble, St. Joseph's Beltsville and St. Nicholas may return the forms without the pastor's signature; the school office will forward them as a group to the appropriate rectories.

For all new siblings (including students entering Kindergarten from our Pre-K program) parents must complete a new admission application, which can be accessed in TADS via a link on the school website. The $100.00 re-registration fee will cover the new siblings; you will not need to pay the $150.00 application fee.

New Student Application Kindergarten - 8th grade ONLY - TADS Website

Pre-K applications must be completed and submitted through the school office.

Failure to re-register by February 2, 2016, may result in your child/children being removed from the school roster, requiring you to re-apply for admission, pay the $150.00 application fee, and risk the vacancy being filled. All tuition and fees for the 2015-2016 school year must be paid in full by April 30, 2016 in order to be accepted for the following school year.

St. Joseph's RCS CYO Basketball Season
Saturday was the start of the 2016 CYO Basketball season! All our teams made lots of baskets, and learned to sharpen their skills level. Our CYO programs build fitness, develop new sports skills, first hand learn the importance of team work and form special friendships with team members.
Also special thank you to Mr Hooker who attended our season opening game!
Note Cards From Your Child (Fundraiser for Art)
The art room is doing a fundraiser to purchase more exciting supplies!  Each child is designing a note card based on the Georgia O'Keefe's flowers. The cards will be about 5 ¼ X 4 and each card will have your child's name, the year, the name of the school and city on the back.

After their design is finished, I will send home the artwork home with an order form for you to see. If you want the cards you will send back with a check. Each box contains 10 cards and are $14.95 a box. If you have any question feel free to contact me. I look forward to seeing all the children's creations in print!

Now that the colder weather is here, students need to have coats, hats, and gloves to keep them warm! Please remember to check and see that they will be warm enough to go outside on these brisk days.
