From the Principal's Office
|
Dear St. Joseph's RCS Families, Welcome back! I hope that all of you were able to have a blessed and enjoyable Christmas and New Year! I'm very excited to see everyone returning fully refreshed from the break. The winter weather seems it has finally caught up with us. Parents, please make sure students are coming to school with all appropriate apparel for the weather (i.e. winter coat, hat, gloves). Additionally, please be extra aware of your child's health this time of year. I know we have many students that are already sick and unable to come to school. Please make sure that you help us to limit any sickness spreading from one student to the next.
Reenrollment is open for the 2016-2017 school year. For more information please find the Registration section in the newsletter. This information can also be found by following the link on our twitter page, the school website, or in the school reach that went home today. Remember, the competition to see which class has the highest re-enrollment for next year ends today. Get those applications in!
We continue our focus on improving our math abilities and performance. I hope the ideas I shared and the website can be helpful. The website I shared can be found HERE. With a common focus, we can make extraordinary gains! STUDY THOSE MATH FACTS!
SCANTRON TESTING starts this Thursday, 01/07 (2nd and 7th grade). Please make sure that you are aware of when your child is testing, and allow them to get a good nights rest and healthy breakfast! You can find the link to the page on the school website HERE
.
I hope that all of you are working with me on developing a growth mindset. Over the remainder of the year I will share some of my training with you through Mr. Hooker's Math and Fitness Challenge. Any student that figures out the answer each week can come to me to get a prize from my prize box. I'll also give prizes to students that create their own math and fitness problem based on their own exercise. Here is this week's challenge. Mr. Hooker's Math and Fitness Challenge: It takes Mr. Hooker eight minutes (8:00) to run one mile. If he keeps this pace, how long will it take him to run 5 miles? Bonus (two prizes): If Mr. Hooker runs a little faster, and averages seven minutes and 48 seconds (7:48) per mile. How much faster will he finish the 5 miles? Registration | 2016-2017 Student Registration
St. Joseph's Regional Catholic School and the Archdiocese of Washington Catholic Schools Office are using TADS, an on-line system, for re-registration and new student enrollment. Current families have received an e-mail from TADS/St. Joseph's Regional Catholic School. Please follow that link in the e-mail to complete the re-registration forms for your family. This link is unique for your family.
The Parish Verification and the Agreement for Parish Service & Support forms are available on the TADS website and need to be completed and returned to the school office as part of the re-registration process. All families must complete the Parish Verification Form. The Agreement for Parish Support & Service must be completed by all practicing Catholic families. Parishioners of St. Hugh of Grenoble, St. Joseph's Beltsville and St. Nicholas may return the forms without the pastor's signature; the school office will forward them as a group to the appropriate rectories.
For all new siblings (including students entering Kindergarten from our Pre-K program) parents must complete a new admission application, which can be accessed in TADS via a link on the school website. The $100.00 re-registration fee will cover the new siblings; you will not need to pay the $150.00 application fee.
New Student Application Kindergarten - 8th grade ONLY - TADS Website
Pre-K applications must be completed and submitted through the school office.
Failure to re-register by February 2, 2016, may result in your child/children being removed from the school roster, requiring you to re-apply for admission, pay the $150.00 application fee, and risk the vacancy being filled. All tuition and fees for the 2015-2016 school year must be paid in full by April 30, 2016 in order to be accepted for the following school year.

Coats, Hats, and Gloves!
|
Now that the colder weather is here, students need to have coats, hats, and gloves to keep them warm! Please remember to check and see that they will be warm enough to go outside on these brisk days. We have outdoor recess, and it is important to keep them warm so they may get their exercise and expend energy outdoors in a healthy way.
