From the Principal's Office
Dear St. Joseph's RCS Families,

Welcome to December everyone. The second Sunday of Advent has passed and the first rehearsal of the Christmas Pageant is complete. I know the students, teachers, and you are working hard to prepare for this. I have to say I was very impressed with how smooth today's run through went, your children amaze me in so many ways! Our performance is fast approaching, and will be held next Tuesday, December 15th. Please take any opportunity you can to practice singing the song assigned to your child's class. Please refer to the list below for questions.

All: Hark the Herald Angels Sing
Grades 1-2: The Snow Lay on the Ground
Grades 3-4: Joseph Dearest, Joseph Mine (Lullaby)
Grades 5-6: O Little Town of Bethlehem (tune- Forest Green)
Grades 7-8: God Rest You Merry Gentlemen

We are all be focusing on improving our math abilities and performance. I hope the ideas I shared and the website can be helpful. If you missed them, you can find these suggestions in last week's newsletter and the website I shared HERE. With a common focus, we can make extraordinary gains! STUDY THOSE MATH FACTS!

Re-enrollment will open this week for students returning for the 2016-2017 school year. Please look for an email notifying you the re-enrollment window has opened.

I hope that all of you are working with me on developing a growth mindset. I shared with you last week that this means that you believe that you can always better yourself; mind, body, and spirit. I also shared that I will be running a Half-Ironman at the beginning of next school year. I will be swimming, biking, and running. Over the remainder of the year I will share some of my training with you through Mr. Hooker's Math and Fitness Challenge. Any student that figures out the answer each week can come to me to get a prize from my prize box. I'll also give prizes to students that create their own math and fitness problem based on their own exercise.

Here is this week's challenge.

Mr. Hooker's Math and Fitness Challenge: Mr. Hooker ran 6 miles on Saturday. Use the data below to find out how long it took Mr. Hooker to run 6 Miles.

Elizabeth House Thanks Mrs. Rella & 6th Grade
Elizabeth House would like to thank Mrs. Rella and the 6th grade for all the wonderful lunches they donated to Elizabeth House. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
Labels for Education
Labels for Education is a great way for our school to "earn free stuff".

We are in specific need of UPCs from "Pepperidge Farms" products for the winter bonus collection.  Kindly turn in your labels/UPCs as soon as possible before December 18, 2015. Collection bins are just outside of the school office as well as in the back of the church.  We always welcome your contribution of labels!
Walk with Francis Service Project--Chrismas Eve Boxes
Looking for a way to give back this Christmas Season? The 3rd and 4th Grade classes are sponsoring a "Christmas Eve Box" Drive for shelter families. The box delivery to shelters has been a tradition for one 4th grader's family, who wanted to share this experience with our school and parish community. It brings joy into the kids' lives and tremendous love into our hearts when we have seen their faces light up.

The boxes typically include a brand new set of pajamas, a toothbrush and toothpaste, Christmas books, or DVD's, a stuffed toy for the recipient child, popcorn and hot chocolate to munch on during the movie or while reading their books and two small wrapped Dollar Store trinket presents that the child can give to their parent(s) on Christmas morning.
There after two ways you can support this effort:
1. Send in one of more items to go into the boxes.
2. Send in a completed wrapped box with the above items.
Label the box for a "Boy" or a "girl"
with appropriate age or size of PJ's.

All items that are sent in individually will be sorted, boxed and wrapped by the 3rd and 4th Graders. Deadline to send in items is December 14th.

Boxes and/or items can be dropped off in the school office, or in designated "Christmas Eve Boxes" wrapped donation boxes.

All Christmas Eve boxes will be delivered on December 23rd.

If you have any questions please call Marie Russo, Meg O'Brien at 301-937-7154, or Sophia West at 443-804-3760.

Thank you for your help and have a Blessed and Merry Christmas!
Love,
The 3rd & 4th Grade
