From the Principal's Office
Dear St. Joseph's RCS Families,

Wow, it is the last week of October. This means that the first quarter has come to an end. Now is a great opportunity to look at ourselves in the mirror and determine how we can continue to improve during the remainder of the school year. During our elementary school Mass today, Msgr. Balbago discussed how we all need to work towards doing good, sometimes it is the simple messages that have the greatest impact. So, I'll be asking myself what am I doing that is good, and where is the presence of good evident in my life?

Then end of October also means that Halloween is coming. This Thursday October 29th, we will be celebrating here at the school. Please make sure to attend to the Halloween section below for guidance.

I shared my instructional focus for this year. If you missed it, here it is again. We will all be focusing on improving our math abilities and performance. I've had a few parents share some great ideas and resources. What are you doing to help? I would love to hear about what you are doing at home, so I can share these strategies with our school community. I have already received some great ideas, and I am looking forward to hearing about more! STUDY THOSE MATH FACTS!

We love to have our parents and family members visit and help out around the school. Have you taken the Child Protection class yet (Virtus)? If not, please go to www.virtus.org and sign up.

This summer, St. Joseph's RCS also launched our new website www.stjosrcs.org. You can still access this the same way through the church's website, or you can type in the website address to your web browser. The 2015-16 School Calendar and School Handbook are posted here. If you're looking for us on social media you can access our Facebook page, twitter handle, @StJosephsRCS, and our instagram @stjosephsrcs on the new school website. If you haven't done so yet, please like us on Facebook and follow us on twitter and instagram!

On a final note, our Inaugural Golf Tournament will be held on November 2nd, that's NEXT MONDAY! Follow the golf link to REGISTER TODAY! We are also closing in on the deadlines for Shop with Scrip and Claire's Gourmet orders. PLACE YOUR ORDERS TODAY!

Attention Ghouls and Goblins!
1) Students will be able to come to school in costume! Please remember we are a Catholic School. Costumes should be fun and not terrifying. Remember pre-k kids will see them! Costumes should be respectful and follow the guidelines on pages 28-29 in the student handbook (muscle shirts does not refer to superhero costumes with muscle inserts, make up permitted) No masks please. Remember that we expect the kids to take part in academics the majority of the day; they should be able to sit, write, go to the bathroom, eat and see in their costumes. (Inappropriately dressed students will be given a uniform to change into)

2) Prizes will be given for the best Saints costumes! Be creative (and respectful).

3) A costume parade for grades PreK-8th will be held at 10:30 A.M.

4) Halloween parties will be held after the parade in the classrooms at 11:00 A.M.

Please note: All parents are invited to attend the parade. Parents attending the parade do not have to sign-in at the office; they may assemble outside on the black-top.  Please park in the teacher's parking lot or church parking lot. If you stay to help with the class parties, you must have completed all components of the child protection plan (Virtus), as well as sign in at the office to get a visitor's pass.
Please follow normal dismissal procedures.

Sincerely,
Zachary Hooker

A big Thank You goes out to everyone who showed their support for Lee Denim Day "2015".  We are pleased to report that we raised over $800.00 for the fight against breast cancer. Great strides are being made in research, education, treatment and life-saving screenings nationwide.  Thank you again for your participation!
Kindergarten Dad Helps us "Shape" up our Math Skills
Kindergarten Students are reviewing and learning our shapes this quarter. We had a surprise visit from Kindergarten student, Ila's dad. He read us some new books that our awesome parents donated from the book fair. He read us the story, The Shape of Things, by Dayle Ann Dodds. The students even got to go up and help him find the shapes as he read the story. The students are learning through play as they have made shape pictures and are currently practicing finding shapes based on the amount of vertices and sides the shapes have.
 We love our guest readers!
