Dear St. Joseph's RCS Families,
Wow, I can't believe September is almost over! This first month of school has been truly incredible. The students and teachers are working hard in all the classrooms and we had the amazing opportunity last week to take a group of students into DC last week during Pope Francis' visit. We were blessed to be able to see, shake hands, hug, and be blessed by Pope Francis as he returned to the Apostolic Nunciature around 12:00 PM on Thursday, after addressing Congress. It was an unforgettable experience and I look forward to sharing more pictures and each students experience with you on the school website, in the near future. Make sure you look at our social media accounts for pictures from last week!
The tuition assistance applications are now open. Please apply. The application takes some time, please do not wait to the end to apply. Parents who applied late or submitted portions of their application late were refused assistance. Families do not need to be Catholic in order to receive assistance from the Archdiocese. Parents must apply through the ADW in order to be considered for Pastoral Tuition Assistance.
2016 - 2017 ADW Tuition Assistance Program - Open Application Period Begins Applications for the 2016 - 2017 Archdiocesan Tuition Assistance Program will be available online beginning Monday, September 28, 2015. The deadline for applicants to apply is Friday, December 4, 2014. Families may apply online by logging onto www.stjosrcs.org and completing the following steps:
- Click on Tuition Assistance under the "About" tab.
- Click on the appropriate (English or Spanish) "TADS - Financial Aid Application" link
Last week I shared my instructional focus for this year. If you missed last week's newsletter, here it is again. We will all be focusing on improving our Math abilities and performance. This means we will be incorporating math across all subject areas. The work St. Joseph's RCS teachers are doing in the classroom is truly wonderful, but as our mission states, we must also be on board with the primary educators, our parents. We want math to be fun and exciting, please help us with this task and show your children how math is used all around us, just like reading! Meanwhile our teachers will be doing the same, and show all of their students how math relates to all subject areas.
We love to have our parents and family members visit and help out around the school. Have you taken the Child Protection class yet (Virtus)? If not please go to www.virtus.org and sign up. We will have our Virtus training here at St. Joseph's RCS Tonight, September 28th, 7:00 PM.
This summer St. Joseph's RCS also launched our new website www.stjosrcs.org You can still access this the same way through the churches website, or you can type in the website address to your web browser. The 2015-16 School Calendar and School Handbook is posted here. If you're looking for us on social media you can access our Facebook page, twitter handle, @StJosephsRCS , and our instagram @stjosephsrcs on the new school website. If you haven't done so yet, please like us on Facebook and follow us on twitter and instagram!

The Archdiocese has a newsletter they would like to share with all of us. Please see below:

Reception of Eucharist
|
At the start of each school year, teachers talk to our students about Mass. Students who are not Catholic are invited to receive a blessing rather than communion. I am surprised to see how many of our practicing Catholic families' children are not receiving communion. I worry that children who go to different Catholic Parishes feel they cannot receive at St. Joseph's. Please talk to your children about reception of the Eucharist. If you are a practicing Catholic and your child is behind in the reception of Sacraments, please see Mrs. Miller or Mr. Hooker so that we can help your child get caught up. Also please understand that if you are receiving the "Practicing Catholic" tuition rate, we expect your children to be fully participating in the Catholic faith.
