Are you more comfortable with giving rather than receiving?
I hear this from many in the caring professions - Reiki, massage, nursing, as well as parents, people working 2 jobs to make ends meet... We seem to have taken the old adage to heart, "it is better to give than receive." And where can that leave us eventually? Exhausted and falling apart along our ragged seams! It is challenging to continue to give when we have depleted our inner energy and resources. Chronic stress gradually eats away at our reserves, leaving us running on empty.
How can we stay connected to our internal fountain of energy and well-being?
Radical Self-Care - this means actually putting SELF-CARE on your priority list! Ideas for radical self-care include:
- Nurture yourself as you would a good friend and give yourself a break by forgiving yourself;
- Manage stress with a commitment to giving yourself Reiki, even "just" 5 minutes;
- Exercise regularly, out in nature if you can;
- Meditate or do Reiki daily;
- Take time to eat healthy;
- Live in the present moment;
- Do what you love and really experience joy;
- Take responsibility for meeting your own needs and dare to ask for what you need - schedule a Reiki session or whatever fills you up!
