Passion

Transformation involves change and frequently passion as well, and both can evoke fears deep within us!

Sam Keen in his book "Learning to Fly" says:
"To the degree that I cease to pursue my deepest passions, I will gradually be controlled by my deepest fears."  
And later continues:
"When passion no longer waters and nurtures the psyche, fears spring up like weeds on the depleted soil of abandoned fields." 

Now we are really stepping out - transformation & passion - "dangerous" words since both urge us to leave the well worn path of convention to avoid that challenging (and often passionate) climb to the peaks of our dreams & desires.

Psychologists are finding that the fires of this fear based perspective are fanned by the lower 20% of our brains (our brainstem or primitive/reptilian brain).  Other emotions linked to the brainstem/reptilian brain are: stress, frustration, anger, resentment, as well as the fight-or-flight reaction.

The key in following your dreams & passions is to engage the neocortex or the upper 80% of the brain.  The neocortex gives us access to feelings and behaviors such as thinking, compassion, confidence, creativity and caring for others.

Passion can fuel our transformation.  It is passion linked to our neocortex so we discern and make wise decisions along this transformative way.
