Greetings!
NCArts is proud to support and promote the literary, visual and performing arts in our community; this is our mission and our efforts and recognition are growing. Here are a few of the latest things we are involved in making happen:
This year we were invited by Cal State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) to make a presentation to the very special students that are attending their 27th annual program this year. Out of 1500 students state-wide, Nevada County is proud, once again, to send an outsized delegation to this prestigious 4-week intensive program. Eight students from this small population is a testament to the importance of the Arts in Nevada County. This is the first year we were asked to participate and it is with great local pride that we did so. Supervisors Nate Beason and Terry Lamphier were gracious enough to take the time to join us in celebrating our greatest resource, our youth. It was a small but passionate gathering and we congratulate the following students who were selected: Megan Billingham, Madison Davis, Becka Forkner, Dennis Hogan, Vasiliki Klemm, Kayla Kootz, Sarah la Plante and Sasha Tannenbaum.
We are joining two exciting ongoing events in the area to get the word out about the arts and about NCArts in particular. We will have a presence at the new Nevada City Art Walk (this seems like a natural!) and will be a co-sponsor and have a table with information from our stakeholders. In addition, beginning on July 11th we will have a table at the Grass Valley Farmers Market. If you are a member, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to have your collateral material at our table. We are making a concerted effort to provide a greater opportunity for you, our stakeholders, with even greater exposure.
Our next Salon Series event is Tuesday, July 9th, with a presentation by sculptors Solomon Bassoff and Domenica Mottarella. Our next Pages to Reel event, "Fight Club", will take place at The Magic Theatre on August 17th. These are both substantive programs and really fun too. Join us.
Stay in touch with the Arts in Nevada County, by visiting our website, nevadacountyarts.org, for a complete schedule of arts events all summer long.
Thank you for all your support, for your support of the Arts in Nevada County and please, as always, join us as we continue to create a collaborative environment to advance our collective cause.
If you would like to support Nevada County Arts by becoming a member, click here - it's only $35 a year, or 10¢ a day!
Stay cool!

"Dinosaur", by Solomon Bassoff & Domenica Mottarella
NCArts Professional Artists' Salon Series - Solomon Bassoff & Domenica Mottarella on Tuesday, July 9th
The Salon Series is a series of talks by professional artists who make a sustainable living in the world of art, showing and selling their work. These selected artists have agreed to share their knowledge in the art of self-promotion, gaining access to galleries and finding the right market place for their art.
This fourth salon will be held on Tuesday, July 9th at 7pm at The Center for the Arts. The featured presenters are Solomon Bassoff and Domenica Mottarella, sculptors who work with cement and glass mosaic. They will be discussing how they became successful civic artists, and offering insight to help you achieve success:
- Learn how to work with Cities and Institutions to get your public art projects funded.
- Learn how to use Kickstarter (online crowd sourcing) to raise funds for your project.
- Learn where to find and how to compete for civic art projects in new buildings, parks, zoo's, community centers, etc.
- Learn the keys to a successful submission of your project.
- Learn how to inspire the community with your art work and reap the rewards.
Solomon and Domenica's work can be found in many cities, zoos, parks and playgrounds - as well as in numerous books and other publications. They believe that the best civic art forges a connection between people and their environment, and Solomon states "Civic art communicates the ideals, dreams and goals of a community, to those who experience it".
Their work can be viewed at www.faducci.com
Register here for Solomon and Domenica's presentation.
This series is presented by NCArts, in our ongoing efforts to educate, inform and support the artists of Nevada County.
The advance admission for each event in the series is $15 general admission, $10 for NCArts members and free for students with valid student ID. The price at the door will be $20 general admission and $15 for NCArts members. If you have any questions about the Salon Series, contact Jude Bischoff at salons@nevadacountyarts.org or 760-668-9408.

Summer Art Camp at ASiF Studios
Focus on a Member: ASiF Studios
The Artists' Studio in the Foothills (ASiF) Gallery & Visual Arts Center, a 4000 square foot studio arts facility located at 940 Idaho Maryland Road in Grass Valley. With several private studios and community classrooms, it is the creative home to over 20 artists, the Mud Hut Ceramics Center, and several hundred students.
ASiF promotes artists with themed gallery shows and artists' receptions throughout the year. ASiF also offers classes for adults and children in painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, mosaics, jewelry and mixed media arts.
ASiF is in full bloom this summer with exciting classes and workshops for adults, a summer art camp and weekly classes for kids, and onsite and offsite gallery shows.
Early this spring, ASiF spearheaded a new artist collaborative and roving gallery - ASiF ShowCAES (Collaborative Art Event Series) at Clavey Winery located at 232 Commercial Street in downtown Nevada City. These collaborative gatherings create a common stage for a unique dialogue between local visual, literary and performing artists, including poets, singer songwriters, dancers and musicians.
Earlier this year, ASiF Gallery and Grass Valley Wine Company collaborated to create ASiF Gallery @ Grass Valley Wine Company, featuring the finest artists and wineries of Nevada County! The large and fabulous gallery walls at the tasting room provide the perfect venue for ASiF to promote the several hundred local artists it represents each year, and there are rotating exhibits and artist-in-action demonstrations every eight weeks.
The next show at ASiF Studios is the Student & Teacher Show, which runs from July 5th - August 31st. An Artists' Reception & Summer Open House with artist demos and drop-in workshops will be held on July 27th, from 11am - 4pm.
Upcoming shows at ASiF Gallery @ Grass Valley Wine Company (128 Mill Street, Grass Valley) include "Artful Women, Contemporary Fabric Artists", from July 8th - Sept 8th and the
Encaustic Painters Exhibition, from Sept 12th - Nov 17th.
The next show at ASiF ShowCAES @ Clavey Winery(232 Commercial Street, Nevada City) is the ASiF Resident Artists' Show from July 1st - August 5th.
