Reduce Holiday Stress!

The holidays can be a joyful time, offering a chance to reconnect with friends and family. But they can also be stressful.

Here are a few ideas for reducing stress when preparing for the holidays:
  • Make lists or use an appointment book to keep track of tasks to do and events to attend. Share your "to do" list with others. Spend time with friends and family while you share tasks like decorating, wrapping gifts, and preparing the holiday meal.
  • It's okay to say "no" to events that aren't important to you. This will give you more time to say "yes" to events that you do want to attend.
  • Try not to put pressure on yourself to create the perfect holiday for your family. Focus instead on the traditions that make holidays special for you. And remember that just because it's a holiday, family problems don't go away. If you have a hard time being around your relatives, it's okay to set limits on your time at events and visits.

Connect with Family and Friends Over the Holidays

Good relationships with family and friends are important. So, view the holidays as a time to reconnect with people. Additionally, accepting help and support from those who care about you can help alleviate stress.

Even volunteering at a local charity with your kids is a good way to connect with others, assist someone in need and teach your kids about the value of helping others.

Remember What's Important

The barrage of holiday advertising can make you forget what the holiday season is really about. When your holiday expense list is running longer than your monthly budget, scale back and remind yourself that what makes a great celebration is loved ones, not store-bought presents, elaborate decorations or gourmet food.

Did You Know?

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) impacts millions
of Americans
each year.

To help relieve SAD and ease symptoms, try to get as much sunlight during the winter months as possible... spend time outdoors or near a window on sunny days.

Laughing reduces stress hormones.
Don't neglect whatever cracks you up! When you laugh, your stress hormones are reduced and your immune cells function better.

Hot Food= Euphoria.

Hot foods trigger the release of endorphins: the natural chemicals that trigger feelings of euphoria and well-being.
