Welcome to our October 2016 Newsletter |
Completely... Hammerheads!
Between the exploration of the Forgotten Islands and the crossing of the Banda and Seram seas, the month of October has passed well and truly under the sign of the Hammerheads onboard WAOW. October is one of the best seasons to see these amazing pelagics in this area of the archipelago and fortunately we were well and truly on time for our appointment. Don't forget to read the article and watch the video dedicated to the Forgotten Islands produced by Nathalie Lasselin.
For the October newsletter we are proposing a special anniversary event in Switzerland on November 18, some special offers and some early bird specials for the 2017 Komodo season.

At the beginning of October, we took 12 passengers on an exploration of the Forgotten Islands for 12 nights, during a crossing from Maumere to Saumlaki. On this trip we travelled 1050 nautical miles to rediscover some of the mythical remote sites and to discover new ones.
Apart from the well-preserved reefs we encountered rare rhinopias, pygmy sea horses and ghost pipe fish, but the real stars of the show were the sharks. Hammerheads (9 consecutive dives in their presence with sometimes up to 100), but also a whale shark, thresher, white and black tips, nurse (of good size), greys, silky and silver tips. We even saw a sperm whale during that trip! A festival that we rarely have the chance to see. A true divers paradise.
The film director and dive explorer Nathalie Lasselin was onboard for the voyage and immortalized several sequences. A huge thank you to her for some of the amazing images and for her ever present humor and stories. Her articles will appear in both Canada and France in specialized press and we will keep you posted with more details as they become available.

TTwo exclusive itineraries await you on April 2017, to dive out of the beaten paths.
From Bitung to Ambon. From the macro fauna of the Lembeh Straits to that of Ambon Bay. This exceptional exploration crosses the isolated plateaus of Tifore, in the middle of the Molucca Sea, and comes via the preserved sites of South Halmahera. An amazing combination of sites showcasing the marine diversity of the Indonesian Archipelago.
From Ambon to Maumere. Providing both beautiful reefs with pelagic encounters this cruise will take you to the Lucipara Atoll, situated in the middle of the Banda Sea, followed by the celebrated Wakatobi National Park, to the South West of the Celebes Islands. Two marine oasis where a number of species find their refuge and food sources from the open oceans. We intend to be in the front row.
