Welcome to our August 2016 Newsletter |
As we have become accustomed to, the Komodo National Park thrilled us all through the months of July and August: manta rays in huge numbers, abundant and multicolored fauna, rare creatures and always the beautiful density that we find in all corners of the reefs. Our passengers have been thoroughly spoilt.
WAOW will nevertheless move on from the Komodo region as it is time to set sail for Maumere in Flores to explore the regions of Alor and Pantar. Following this we will navigate for several special cruises to the East and the Forgotten Islands. (There remain a few spaces left at special prices).
From the middle of October we will make our annual migration to the North, crossing the Banda and Seram Seas before settling in for our season in Raja Ampat in West Papua.

New Itinerary SANGIHE - Pearls of the North
From the 18th to 29th of March, 2017, WAOW will take you on a voyage of discovery to the Islands of Sangihe, in the very North of the Celebes Islands. A unique itinerary which allows us to combine firstly the Lembeh Straits, the Bangka Islands and the celebrated Bunaken National Park, as the more well-known areas.
However, the main attraction on this cruise resides in the exploration of the volcanic sites rarely visited like Nenung (muck, wreck and wall dives), Tagulandang-Ruang (ancient lava flows covered in life), Biaro (pinnacles and reefs on black sands), Siau and its still active volcano Karangetang at 1827 meters (recent lava flows and underwater hot sources), and finally culminating in the underwater volcano "Mahangetang". Having appeared and disappeared several times over the past centuries, the volcano now tops at a depth of 3-4 meters from the surface offering seascapes of rocks and hot black sands animated by the flow of gas bubbles.

In the lens of...

Our friend Didier Brandelet (a.k.a "LaForce") recently joined us on WAOW in June for a press report. His legendary sense of humor and his professionalism were once again appreciated by all aboard. Didier took some spectacular photos, both above and below the water. Several of these photos have been used with this newsletter and will soon be published in the magazine "Plongeurs International" and on the website DiveOsea.
