Some of you may recognize the title of this article as one of the many great songs from the band Chicago. I heard it just the other day and loved it all over again, although I still don't understand the lyrics. But, that said, the song title as well as the easily forgotten command to change the clocks this weekend inspired me to write this rather timely piece. (Please pardon the pun.)
I saw this cool Apple / Hermes watch in my latest Harper's Bazaar magazine. For a minute there, I thought I might want it for myself. Until I saw the price, that is. It is indeed a Hermes and a little much for this working woman. If I had a nickel for every time I was late for an event or in some cases even completely missed an event because I forgot to change my clocks, perhaps I would be able to afford an Apple-Hermes watch. I would wear it as a casual weekend statement of impeccable taste and extraordinary technical skill. (And of course, it would show the change of time without my input. Excellent.)
Remember when the Swatch Watch was so trendy? I was hoping the younger generation would be more inclined to wear a watch as a result. Sadly no. The proliferation of cell phones dashed those hopes in a hurry. Most young people today think that their phone has the time, so why wear a watch?
I am here to tell you why, my dear friends, both young and old . . . A great watch can be a thing of beauty and a joy forever if you are willing to put even a modest amount of money on the table and take good care of it. It is also a piece of jewelry that can enhance your wardrobe, your confidence and even your chances for promotion in the business world. I am both very sure and very serious about that.
I was heartened this month when I saw all the ads for watches in the magazines and when many models and celebs were pictured wearing them.
I like to think of a good looking watch as a practical accessory I can add to my outfit like I would any other piece of jewelry. For example: I wear a classic silver Movado for work, a wide band sparkly rhinestone Anne Klein for dressier occassions, and a leather band Fossil with jeans and weekend wear. Three. No more, no less. Plus, who wants to get out their phone, dial in the passcode and get the time? Just look at your watch!
Who needs an apple watch anyway?
Let's all turn back the hands of time and rejoice. Halleluia! The watch is back.
