Nancy's Style File: The Heart of the Matter

February 2015

Dear Readers,
This month many of us will celebrate Valentine's Day, but others will be cynical and say it's a Hallmark Holiday so pooh pooh and forget it. As for me, the hopeful romantic, I believe a celebration is in order. Sure, it's a time to express romantic feelings, but it's also an opportunity to look inward and ask . . . how and when do I celebrate my femininity? And pay attention to the sensuous and romantic part of me that was so potent in my youth?

A sumptuous romantic dinner al fresco in Tuscany would be my choice for me and my fantasy Valentine this year. However, since we both know that's not going to happen, I will console myself with some doable, very accessible sensuous treats that are slightly smaller in scope.

Please join me.

1. Indulge in a mani-pedi with a friend, daughter, mother or partner ( yes, men enjoy this experience, too) that includes a foot treatment for callouses. I had never tried this new callous treatment before, so believe me when I say it is nothing short of miraculous. I am still agog at how smooth and silky my feet feel as a result. I resolved this New Year to stop using the words awesome and amazing but honestly? It was truly awesome and amazing.

The exfoliating leg massage that goes along with the pedicure was also noteworthy (the song " Stairway to Heaven" comes to mind).

By the way, the nail polish color of the moment is wine. Bordeaux, Burgundy, Merlot, Argentinian Malbec . . . you name it, the idea is the same. And what I love best about this color? It looks good on absolutely everyone!

Please note, dear readers. This is the length and the shape of  modern nails (long nails and acrylic nails are OUT).

2. Buy some new underwear. Please.

Check your underwear drawer. Is it a place that speaks to your pride in being a woman? Or would you be embarrassed by the shabby condition of many of your unmentionables?

I love this lace racer back bra from the GAP.

Yes, that's right, the GAP (they are sold out of this particular style but expect more in this spring).

Many of us mistakenly believe that a good bra must be expensive. Well, I suppose if you expect to wear the same bra everyday, that would be true. But, like handbags, it's a good idea to alternate bra styles from day to day, from season to season and from occasion to special occasion.

And for those of you who would welcome an alternative to Spanx, check out these remarkable and wondrous panties also from the Gap.

Supportive, comfortable and tummy tucking good, these are a wondrous combination of nylon, spandex and elastic.

I have these in the color shown and also in black. I LOVE THEM. I just bought them in November and went back to the website to purchase a couple more pair last week and surprise surprise. They are sold out.

Evidently, we more mature gals are not the only ones that like this kind of full coverage undergarment. Looks like younger women also appreciate a trim-line pair of underpants!

I could go on and on about things that would be fun and give you a boost of estrogen, but instead, as a child of the 60's I will say this . . .

Do whatever turns you on. Express yourself.

Live a little.

And most importantly, "May you stay forever young".

Happy Valentine's Day!

Nancy
