Dear Readers,
Seems everything in fashion these days has a more casual vibe. Have you noticed? Sneakers with pants other than jeans; biker boots with over-size jackets and sweaters; even scarves are doing a more casual thing. You don't need to tie it at all if you want to look modern and stylish. Just let it all hang out.
So, to those who say "But, I don't know how to wear a scarf."
I say no more excuses. This look could not be easier, it flatters everyone and it looks good no matter your age, gender, or political affiliation.
And a pop culture look this year that's causing some to look down their noses at fashion is called a SNOOD. What a ridiculous name for such a practical good looking item.
God bless you.
With the exception of business office attire, shirts are currently worn untucked everywhere and by everyone! There was a time when I thought the look was sloppy and unattractive. I can see some heads nodding out there! But now that it's universally acceptable and I've seen it for more than just a few seasons, I think I'm finally getting used to it and I'm kind of liking it! No question that wearing shirts and blouses untucked is more comfortable, so I've been buying shirts in a longer tunic style. That way when I take off my sweater or jacket (seems no matter the temperature, inevitably they must be removed . . . again I see some of you nodding) my shirt looks like it was meant to be worn untucked. I even like the way it flatters my not so perfect body. Try it. You'll like it!
Here's how it's done:
And below, you see yet another cool scarf look . . . just use your sweater! Again, no complicated tying necessary. I haven't actually tried this yet. I will let you know how it turns out after I do. It might just be that I'm taken with how cute this YOUNG girl looks (love the hat, love the eyebrows). And if you would let me know if you try it, we would all be grateful. Please include you age. Thank you.
In conclusion, here's the gist of today's message. It's not so much what you wear as it is how you wear it. The details. That's where all the fun comes in. Take a chance. Be creative. If people are wearing their sweaters as scarves, what funky fun ideas might we come up with? Fuzzy slippers as ear warmers? If you think up something brilliant like that, send me a photo (email) and we'll have a contest. Best do-able, cute, fun idea will win a prize. I will be the judge and who knows? You might be the winner! (If you are the only contestant, you will definitely be the winner.)
First prize will be an hour of my time in 2015 to shop for you, or help edit your closet, or conduct a style consult either on-line or in-person, depending on your locale. Sound good?
Meantime, wishing you some quiet time for your beautiful selves during the craziness of the Christmas season . . .
Happy Holidaze!
Nancy
PS. Winners will be announced in the January edition of Style File and all decisions are final. Friends and relatives are eligible and encouraged to enter, including my brothers and nephews. If you have any questions, feel free to call or text:
