Dear Readers,
In my line of work, I'm always looking for things that are both beautiful and practical. You will likely never see Birkenstock sandals (not beautiful) or stiletto heels (not practical) grace the pages of my Style File. However, at holiday time, many of us throw caution to the wind and decide to wear those gorgeous dangerous heels. And just a few short hours later we are heard saying: "I swear I will never ever wear high heels again."
I know your pain. It happens to the best of us and I am here to help. Looking at shoes that are indeed beautiful and practical is a good first step (NPI). In addition, I am throwing in a few holiday looks from my very own closet hoping to inspire you to shop in yours.
Pretty flats, jewelry, purses and scarves are a girl's best friends this time of year. They can provide that certain touch of glitz or glam we usually crave around the holidays. I may not be attending a red carpet event, but hey! I've got a few social engagements on my calendar and I bet you do too. And most importantly, I have tons of Christmas spirit and I plan to show it; black tie or no black tie.
So, here we go. . .
I love this ad. Even if I can't read the name on that blue box on the floor, I most certainly recognize it (and fantasize about it). And I really love the shoes . . . pointy toe flats that are brown not black, and not entirely flat.
We all need a bit of a heel for support. And these feature some snazzy holiday style as well.
Just so you know, round-toe ballet flats are OUT according to the December issue of Harper's Bazaar. The flats shown below are the IN styles this year and they are all high-end designer shoes priced at around $875 a pair. Gulp. However, you can find very similar designs and copy-cat styles at discount and department stores for far, FAR less money. Whew.
I need to buy nothing new because I always have a black blazer, a pencil skirt and a white top handy. All I need to do is open my jewelry drawer and choose a brooch, get out my classic pearls, don my good winter coat and my sparkly scarf. Tah Dah. I'm all dressed up. With any luck, these little accessories will also help me feel like going out on New Year's Eve. Granted, I may only go next door for a glass of champagne, but I'm ready.
The question is . . . are you?
