This week it was faded jeans, sweatshirts and Birkenstocks that were celebrated as the great run-around pieces for the new season.
Looks like the perfect paint the porch outfit to me. Love the purse, though.
Even the Wall Street Journal reported, and I quote: "This is not the first time that ugly shoes have been trendy."
And it probably won't be the last either.
But it begs the question . . .
Are any of these trendy items actually good looking, flattering or sophisticated?
Please consider these instead:
- Ankle boots for everybody!
- Cargo jackets and patterned blazers.
- Slim cut chinos in dark camel, black, navy, grey or olive green (hottest neutral going for fall).
- Crew neck stripe sweaters worn over button front shirts.
- Fine weave turtle-neck sweaters (making a BIG comeback this season).
Nothing fancy, just basic simple stuff. And all these items can be worn by both men and women! I suspect we already have some of them sitting in our closets right now, waiting patiently for us to wear them when we take a walk in the park, or a ride in the car. And why not?
This is not dressing up, my friends.
This is dressing down with style.
Forget New York.
We can keep it chic anywhere we live.
Casually chic in Chicago,
Nancy
