Dear Readers, By now I'm sure you are at least thinking about doing some Christmas shopping. That's the first and most important step in the buying process. Thinking. Good for you. And when shopping for men, I always have to remind myself to think COMFORT. Happy Guy What do we buy for: A. the guy who has everything including impeccable expensive taste and even picks out some great gifts for the females in his life? He is the only one who will care if your gift comes from Neiman's or Old Navy. B. the guy who is not in the least bit interested in clothes and has the wardrobe to prove it? C. the guy who has a fairly decent wardrobe but is extremely picky about what he wears? In other words, the tie you saw at Nordstrom's that would be perfect with his new camel sport coat? Don't even think about it. He is super fussy about his ties. He will hate it. And last but not least, D. the guy who needs a gun held to his head before he will even consider wearing something that's not as comfy as his pajamas.
Trust me, I've been there. In all four situations, actually. I have four nephews, grew up with four brothers, and I always loved my dad. He was a wise caring father of five, but his taste in clothing was dubious at best. My mom helped him choose his business wardrobe, thank heaven, so he always looked dapper and polished for work. But, she had absolutely no control when it came to his weekend wear.
Picture this if you will: a pair of burgundy, gold, and navy blue plaid polyester pants with a matching turtle neck sweater, a burgundy windbreaker, and a Boston College baseball cap. And oh, how he loved those velour leisure suits circa 1970. He was a wonderful man, just slightly fashion-impaired. So . . . on the right, you will see some suggestions that you might at least try. No telling how successful you will be, but you can feel good knowing that your gift is stylish, modern and comfortable. The rest is up to him. One can only hope.
Happy Holidays! Nancy
