Dear Friends,
DON'T MISS THE PARTY! We sincerely want to thank our generous sponsors and those of you who have purchased tickets to our annual Valley of Heart's Delight fundraising event! The goal of the evening is to relax and have fun in beautiful History Park, while raising funds critical to support the mission of History San José, which is to collect, preserve and celebrate our local culture and history.
This year, the 2015 Valley of the Heart's Delight Committee departed from honoring an individual, and chose to honor our entire community of which we are so proud. From Juan Bautista de Anza's 66 pobladores, or settlers, who founded California's first city, El Pueblo de San José de Guadalupe to becoming the tenth largest city in the nation with more than 100 languages spoken daily-San José has a history of diversity.
The evening will feature a selection of local food and performances. Catered Too! is preparing everything from Banh Mi to Street Tacos; and the Akoma Drummers, Los Lupeños de San Jose, Vinh Son Liem Lion Dance, Khamsin Belly Dance, Fiddle Road, and Millennium Sounds Orchestra will entertain us! And this year we will have an amazing live auction!
Please help support History San Jose and purchase your ticket today!
Until next time,
Alida J. Bray
President & CEO

From the Archive
Recent Gifts to the Museum:
Sports Photographs and Memorabilia
Gift of Chris Morrisey
This collection documents the student athletic careers of Chris Morrisey and Millard Hampton. Both competed for local schools in the 1970s, sometimes competing against each other as shown in this 1976 image of the 220-yard dash at San Jose City College (Morrisey far left, Millard second from left).

Hampton won gold at the 1976 Olympic games on the 4x100-meter relay, seen here celebrating with fellow gold medal-winner Bruce Jenner. He later served on the San Jose Police Department for 26 years, and now coaches track at the Franklin High School in Elk Grove.
Morrisey began his career at Bellarmine College Prep before running the 100-meter, 200-meter and 4x100-meter relay for Foothill College. He went on to become Executive Director of the San Jose Arena Authority.
Architectural Papers of Stan Gould
Gift of Stan Gould

Gould's papers are an important addition to the Archive. They include documentation related to the Julian/Stockton redevelopment corridor, Guadalupe River Parkway, Fox California Theater renovation, and the Rotary Club of San Jose's Youth Education in Science (YES) Committee.
Photograph
Gift of Brad Goodwin
This is a fabulous shot of downtown San Jose in 1895 featuring the old post office (now the San Jose Museum of Art) and Market Square (now Cesar Chavez Plaza).
