Dear Friends,

April kicks off another full season of events at History Park! Please join us for the Bay Area Printer's Fair & Wayzgoose on Saturday April 18- scroll down the page for more details and events. To help support all these great free and low-cost programs that History San Jos provides, we also have to spend some time raising funds!

On May 5, we will once again participate in Silicon Valley Gives, a 24-hour online effort devoted to promoting and raising funds for nonprofit organizations in Santa Clara Valley. Last year, you helped us raise more than $20,000! We are excited to again take part in this historic event and show our community that history matters! Stay tuned and visit our web page closer to May 5 for more information.
Then, on June 27, we invite you to join us for the party of the year at History Park! Our 10th Annual Valley of Hearts Delight fundraiser celebrates a history of diversity in San Jose, while supporting our most crucial projects. The night will be filled will local entertainment, featuring performers such as the Akoma DrummersLos Lupeos de San Jose and Fiddle Road.

This year, our featured project is the renovation of the Empire Firehouse at History Park. We will transform the lower level of the Firehouse into an interactive exhibit and educational space for school children and park visitors to enjoy.

But we can't do it without you! Please join us for this very special evening. CLICK HERE for more information.

Until next time,

Exhibit Sneak Peek!

On Thursday, April 2, HSJ Members & VIPs joined us for a reception at the Leonard & David McKay
Gallery in the Pasetta House for a preview of our latest exhibit : Slugs, Dingbats & Tramp Printers!
Printing in Santa Clara Valley.

The exhibit explores the key role printing and printing technologies played in the growth of San Jose and
the Santa Clara Valley. The show features everything from California's first soldier-printer Agustin V.
Zamorano in 1834, to Adobe's first product-PostScript! It also highlights the role of women in printing along with the rise of unions and labor laws, while showing off items printed
at History Park by the Printer's Guild.

We want to thank our generous sponsors for their support of this exhibit: Robert J. Bettencourt, Adobe Typekit, and Elizabeth & Jerry Gard.

Recent Acquisition
Frank Harper recently donated this bicycle, which was once owned by Freidolin Kessler, a well-known San Jose artist.  Kessler rode the bike to all the California Missions in 1938, photographing them and later creating linoleum block prints. The prints were displayed at the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition, and later at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco.
