Dear Friends,

We are excited to announce the return of the famous

Manny's Cellar - for one night only!

As many of you know, Manny's Cellar, which formerly occupied the basement of the historic Fallon House, is a true San Jose institution and holds a special place in many hearts.

Manny Pereira opened his restaurant in 1962 and provided folks a homey atmosphere, excellent food, and stiff drinks. Manny's Cellar is famous for an impressive turnover of seats - feeding hundreds of lunchtime customers in under 20 minutes!

We hope you will join us on Friday, September 26 at 5:30pm for the return of Manny's Cellar. Tickets will be are $75 and cover food, drinks, and live music. Tommy Taylor, infamous bartender of Manny's Cellar fame, will be on hand to share stories. Most importantly, the proceeds from this event support our educational programs at History San Josť.

New Acquisition: Thank You to Notre Dame High School
Notre Dame High School recently donated a 36" x 29" portrait of Amanda O'Conner. Mr. and Mrs. Myles P. O'Conner arrived in San Jose in the late 1870's and became very socially active in the community. The painting was hung in the O'Conner mansion at the northeast corner of Second and Reed Streets in downtown San Jose. The residence was turned over to the Sisters of Notre Dame for an orphanage and later became Notre Dame High School.

The portrait was painted by partners Louis O. Lussier and Andrew P. Hill in 1877.
