Dear Friends,

Tuesday, May 6 is a very important day for History San José.

We have been invited to participate in Silicon Valley Gives, the first ever 24 hour online giving day in the Valley. Through our online giving page, you can read more about the work we do and the ways we contribute to our local community.

To be successful, we need YOUR help!

We ask our esteemed members, donors, and friends to be a part of our success by making your online gift to History San José on Tuesday, May 6.

Your gift on May 6 will help us qualify for matching funds from sponsors such as the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, Microsoft, and Heritage Bank.

The success of this campaign will allow us to expand our education programs, pay for better signage for children at History Park, and help repair damage to the Fallon House.

On Tuesday, May 6, I hope you will think of History San José and make your gift. Every gift - large or small - contributes to our collective success. Help us make history with Silicon Valley Gives!

Until next time,

Alida J. Bray,

President & CEO

Wagon On the Move!

This wagon from the 19th century, like other wagons of that period, often had the hardware wheel centers purchased as a kit from a manufacturer and then shipped un-assembled. A local carriage house or blacksmith constructed the undercarriage and then added the body, in this case, a hay wagon, utilizing available local lumber. The extended tongue would have enabled the harnessing of four horses.

The provenance of this particular wagon is unknown although was likely acquired by the museum with the "Trader" Lew Bohnett collection in the mid-60s. We are loaning the wagon to the Bernal Ranch on Cottle Avenue - come check it out!
