Dear Friends,
I want to start my letter this month by personally thanking the Hugh Stuart Center Charitable Trust for their recent grant to History San José. We feel so fortunate to have the support of such an extraordinary foundation. Thank you to the Trustees of the Hugh Stuart Center Charitable Trust for their belief in our mission, vision, and contributions to the community.
We are excited to share with you the details of our upcoming event, Reflections of Old San José, a historic fashion show managed by volunteer group Portraits of the Past. Our volunteers will share scandalous and sordid tales of some of San José's most notorious individuals, while clothed in historically representative costumes.

The program is then followed by a delicious champagne and dessert
reception. This fun afternoon is a steal at $25 a ticket!
The proceeds of this fashion show will benefit our educational
programs, which help over 20,000 schoolchildren learn and grow each year.
Until next time,

Alida J. Bray,
President & CEO

Collections Corner
Garden City Velodrome Artifacts
The museum received a unique collection of material related to the Garden City Velodrome. Located at the present Lincoln High School site, the Velodrome operated for a short time from 1936 to 1940.
 |
Picture of Velodrome; c.1937; unknown photographer; gift of Tom Flood; History San José Collection
|
Donated by Tom Flood, the material was collected by his grandfather, Dewey Maxwell, who was a founder of the Velodrome and also operated a bicycle shop in San José for several decades. Included in the donation are photographs, programs, log books, tickets, etc. A remarkable component of the collection is the Velodrome's first year business records.
