AN AUDIENCE OF ONE

March 10, 2002 was a defining marker for me on Restoration Road. Pastor Kelly Byrd had invited me to preach at Blackhawk on Sunday morning, since he would be traveling back to his California hometown for his birthday. I jumped at the chance to communicate what God had done with my life up to that point, and there was no better text to describe my journey than the parable of the father who had two sons. I still remember this like it was only yesterday.

A pastor had told me that when I preached, I should picture an audience of one in the balcony applauding his approval. That person is the Restorer who said, "There is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents" (Luke 15:10).

At the conclusion of the sermon, a young woman walked down the aisle to pray with me. She humbled her heart with the Master Key of full surrender to unlock her gate to Restoration Road where the vertical intersected with the horizontal, freeing her from the prison of pride and pretense. This was an indication to me that there was thunderous applause in heaven. God's vision had been followed by his provision. He was using me while on my own Restoration Road journey to bring His restoration to others.

That's exactly what He wants to do with you. Commit to live your life for an audience of One. The Apostle Paul penned: "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him" (Colossians 3:17).

Whether you work or play, do it all for an audience of One.
