MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2013THE RESTORATIVE CHANGE EQUATION
Are you contemplating a job or career change?
Restorative change places the value of the process over the results. When I was discerning what I had believed was God's prompting to become a direct carrier of His message of restoration, I became aware of the following change equation: Dissatisfaction with the present state (DPS) plus awareness of a better state (ABS) plus first steps (FS) equals change. I modified the equation by multiplying all three components by wisdom and leadership (WL) to produce restorative change (RC). Consequently, it looked like this: (DPS + ABS + FS) WL = RC.
Dissatisfaction implies that something is unmet in our desires. Awareness means that we see in our hearts a better way -- which is truly the only way -- to satisfy those desires. First steps communicate that in our hearts we are choosing, thinking, praying, and wanting to move forward in a God-honoring way with our time, talent, and treasure.
During this time of reflecting, I asked myself a revealing question, one that I would like to share with you to discern your own Holy Spirit promptings to make a career shift. "What would I love to do, even if I failed?" In other words, "What process would I absolutely love doing, even if successful results never came?"
I kept coming back to "connecting the culture with Christ the Restorer through communicating the Bible." This became a vision-mission combination for my life. Connecting is leading. My three expressions would be: (1) writing, (2) teaching, and (3) preaching. I planned to communicate in order to connect.
What about you? What would you love to do, even if you failed? What process would you absolutely love doing, even if successful results never came? The Apostle Paul wrote: "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is -- his good, pleasing and perfect will" (Romans 12:2).
Renew your mind through reading the Word of God, then take first steps toward testing and approving His will for your life.
