Like the prodigal son, money slipped like sand through my fingers. Ironically, when I had less than nothing, I was finally ready to surrender my treasure to the Restorer. This meant that I would have to undertake many humbling face-to-face meetings and telephone conversations with past-due vendors.
Through this process I learned a valuable lesson: never again did I want to be foolish with my treasure. I saw the ripple effect it had on others, and I was ashamed of how poorly it had reflected on the cause of the Restorer in my personal and business life.
Solomon taught: "One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty" (Proverbs 11:24).
Though I had withheld unduly, through a heart change I was free to trust in the Giver rather than the gifts. I began to see God as my Provider, a belief that restored my treasure to authenticity.
On the other side of every expense is a person. Wisely valuing those relationships allows us to experience generosity as God restores our treasure.
