GOOD, BAD, OR HUMBLE?

Our goodness can be just as much of a barrier to God as our badness because we often trust in it. Jesus told a parable that became known as "The Prodigal Son." However, Jesus never titled it by that name. Instead, He described two sons, with the climax of the story focusing on the elder son justifying his goodness to the radical grace of the father.

Two thousand years later, those of us with the sand heart of the younger son, tend to be loose and licentious. Those of us with the stone heart of the elder son are legalistic and rigid. When life is good, we thank ourselves. When life is challenging, we blame God. However, those of us with the clay heart of the father have a heart of love.

Which heart condition most resembles you?

Today, humble your heart to your heavenly Father and surrender any sand or stone in your life. He will give you a soft heart of clay.
