Summer Book Fair - June 5 & 6

The Summer Book Fair will be held Monday and Tuesday (June 5 & 6) in the Perrine Library. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to view the terrific selection of titles chosen by Foote's librarians and to get a head start on purchasing summer reading for children. Rising seventh, eighth and ninth graders can purchase summer reading books at the fair. Students will need to bring cash or check to school.

Parent volunteers are needed June 2, 5 & 6 to make the Book Fair a success. It's a nice way to spend an hour or two and browse a wonderful selection of books for the summer.

Summer Reading!

A note from Librarians Lynda Johnson and Jennifer Friedman:

Beginning today (June 1) during their Library time, we are giving each child currently in grades K-5 the Summer Book chosen by the teachers for them to read with you over the summer. If your child is entering grade 7, 8 or 9 in the fall, he or she will have a selection of books from which to choose. Either a Middle School Humanities teacher or we will have introduced the 'choice books' to your children. The 'choice books' will be available at the Book Fair next Monday and Tuesday in the Library.

Please also be sure to look for an email from the school about Summer Reading. Each family will receive an email outlining the specific Summer Reading requirements for each grade in which they will have a student next year. Happy summer to all!

Pick Up Medications from the Health Office

Parents: Please pick up your children's medications from the student health office by Thursday, June 15. For safety reasons, only parents or guardians may pick up medications. Any medications not picked up will be properly discarded. Thank you.

Please Be Mindful of Food Allergies

The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority at Foote. With end-of-year celebrations happening, please keep in mind those students with food allergies when sending in treats from home. If you are not sure which allergies are present in your child's classroom, please contact his/her teacher or School Nurses Jodi Hodge (jhodge@footeschool.org) or Heather Russo (hrusso@footeschool.org). Thank you for helping to keep our school community safe and inclusive.

Diaper and Picture Book Drive Ends Tomorrow

Donate Diapers and Picture Books
to support The Diaper Bank and New Haven Reads
Ends Friday, June 2
Collection box in the main office

The Diaper Bank provides one small thing, but that small thing makes a big difference. It keeps children clean, dry and healthy, and on the path to an early childhood education, and frees parents to work. Diaper sizes 5 and 6 are especially needed.

New Haven Reads is always in need of picture books, especially after a recent flood destroyed a great deal of their inventory.

Thank you for supporting our greater New Haven community!

Close-Up:
Mapping the Foote Community

What tools does Mr. Schlusberg need to run the theater? What makes the music room interesting to look at? What, exactly, is Mrs. Maoz's job?

After many weeks of study about how The Foote School operates, our Kindergartners can easily answer these (and many other) questions. The theater needs a stage, puppets and costumes. The colored rug in the music room makes it very visually interesting. And Mrs. Maoz? "She takes care of kids and is in charge of the whole school."

Beyond these endearing observations is an academic unit rich in social studies and mathematics. In small teams, Kindergarten children have been visiting every corner of the Foote School with two tasks to accomplish: learning about all the grownups who work here, and creating accurate visual representations of the entire campus.
