It's time to sign up for After School minicourses for the spring term. Minicourses give children a chance to learn something new and have fun in a relaxed setting. Children who are not enrolled in the After School Program can still participate in a minicourse.

Most minicourses begin the week of April 10.

School-wide Toiletries Drive a Success

Thanks to everyone who donated to the seventh grade's toiletries drive for the homeless. We were able to collect several large boxes of toothpaste, soap, shampoo, razors and other personal care products, which we will deliver to Liberty Community Services on Friday. Your efforts make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in need.

Tickets On Sale for Annual Fundraising Auction

Tickets are now on sale for the annual fundraising auction, which takes place on Saturday, April 8, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. This year's theme is Cirque de Foote. The evening will feature live and silent auctions, food and drinks, dancing and a DJ, and circus performers!

Please be sure to check your inbox for an email after your
ticket purchase; you will receive a link for online bidding that you will need to use at the auction.

ALSO: the PTC still needs parents to donate items to the auction and sponsor the event. Donations can include anything from restaurant gift cards and sports tickets, to use of a vacation home or sharing a special talent (i.e. music lessons, baking, quilting.)

Examining Forced Migration, Piece by Piece

One of the essential questions guiding our fourth grade social studies curriculum is "Why do people come to the United States?" Fourth graders learn that people immigrate by choice to seek new opportunities, or to escape difficult situations.

This year, the fourth grade teachers decided a third reason needed to be addressed: forced migration. Teachers Denise Quinn, John Climie and Toby Welch have crafted a unit of study that teaches our 9- and 10-year-olds about slavery in an age-appropriate way, drawing on books, maps, songs and documentary films.

Students are reading three different books that address the slave experience and working in small groups to illustrate parts of the book and stitch their images into a quilt, in the tradition of "quilt codes" that were created by enslaved people.
