The lost and found bins are overflowing with clothing and belongings. Items not claimed by the end of the school year will be donated to charity.

New Issue of Foote Prints

The spring issue of Foote Prints magazine is on its way to your mailbox. This is our second of two special issues commemorating Foote's centennial year. Our cover story explores the school's second half-century, a time when Foote branched out into the community and into the world.

Also in this issue: feature stories about Grandparents Day (from a Foote grandparent's perspective), faculty professional development, Horizons at Foote and a surprising revelation about the school's origins. Click here to browse the magazine online.

Help Needed for Faculty Appreciation Breakfast

The Faculty Appreciation Breakfast is Wednesday, May 18 in the Twichell Room. This is a wonderful opportunity to express our appreciation to the Foote faculty and staff for supporting our children's education and well-being throughout the year.

This event is sponsored by the PTC and supported entirely by Foote parents who provide breakfast items and flowers and plants for our annual flower raffle. Please consider donating to this enjoyable event. Click here to sign up to bring food, flowers or both. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Non-perishable items can be dropped off in the Twichell Room on Monday, May 16 or Tuesday, May 17, clearly labeled "Faculty Breakfast." Perishable items should be labeled and put in the refrigerator, and hot items should be brought in between 6:30 a.m. and and 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday. We have a microwave, an oven and warming dishes, if needed.

Please remember to label your bowls and/or serving utensils and please pick up any time after 10:30 a.m.

DayInLifeA DAY IN THE LIFE OF FOOTE
An Excellent Exhibition of the 50 States

Guess how many animal species live at Mississippi's Jackson Zoo? (The answer is 120). How many triangular blocks were stacked to build the St. Louis Arch? (142). What was the first national monument in the U.S.? (It was Devil's Tower in Wyoming).

Those and other interesting facts were on display in the Hosley Gym yesterday during the annual fourth grade 50 States Fair. Students showcased what they've learned about their assigned states or cities as part of an interdisciplinary unit on the 50 U.S. states.

Each student created a box map of his or her state, a list of state-specific trivia questions and answers, and wore a state-themed costume. The students also designed license plates for their states in art class. For the first time, students this year held a single-day event called "creativity day" to build models of state landmarks using recycled materials.

The fourth graders acted as knowledgable and articulate guides to their states, answering questions from parents, teachers and visiting students about the history, geography, culture and natural features of their states. Bravo!

We're celebrating Foote's 100th year by looking back in our archives to remember the people and events that have made Foote a special learning community. Check out the Foote Archives Blog to learn more about our school's past.

From the Faculty Blogs
For Earth Day, Grace Peard's first graders spent 10 minutes cleaning up campus trash and filled three big bags.

Margy Lamere's second graders and Hilary Pearson's first graders worked together in the community garden, planting potato towers, mulching paths, gathering trash and sewing seeds (pictured).
