Stephanie Anestis Photography Fundraiser

Stephanie Anestis, a Foote mom and family photographer, loves to capture the emotional connection between two people. To raise money for the PTC, she is offering 'photo duet' mini-sessions on Sunday, April 24 (rain date May 1) in two locations: Edgerton Park, New Haven (morning sessions) and Stony Creek, Branford (afternoon sessions).

These 10-minute sessions are to highlight a special relationship: mother and child, father and child, grandparent and child, aunt or uncle with niece or nephew, etc., and would make a perfect gift for grandparents or a spouse.

Your $150 donation to the Foote School PTC includes the session, five low-resolution, watermarked digital images for online posting, and two archival 8x10 prints of the image of your choice, handmade by Stephanie.

To sign up, click here to select a time slot and bring a check for $150 made out to the Foote School PTC to the main office.

Foote's MathCounts Team is #1 in Connecticut

Congratulations to Foote's MathCounts team, which won first place at the State MathCounts Competition at the University of Hartford on March 12. The winning team consisted of eighth graders Noah Lee, David Metrick and Kyle Shin and seventh grader Ting Li. The coaches are Middle School Math Chair Megan Williams and Andrew Metrick, a Foote parent and Yale professor of finance.

David Metrick finished second individually and will represent Foote as one of four members of the Connecticut state team at the National MathCounts Competition in Washington, D.C. in May. Ms. Williams was chosen to coach the Connecticut state team at the finals.

Seven Foote students qualified for the state competition, held over spring break. Eighth graders Adin Jennings, Jerry Sun and Eva Illuzzi also competed, with Adin finishing in the top 25 percent.

MathCounts is a national math enrichment club dedicated to developing strong problem-solving, logical thinking and analytical abilities in middle school students--skills that are crucial to careers in science, technology, engineering and math. Foote's MathCounts club is just three years old and meets after school and on Saturday mornings to engage in fun and challenging problem-solving activities.

Hands-On History in Our Nation's Capital

Eighth graders are in Washington, D.C. for a three-day trip related to their study of U.S. history. This new class trip is the first time Foote has sent students to our nation's capital.

Day 1 was jam-packed, with visits to the Vietnam, Korean, WWII and Lincoln memorials; trips to the National Zoo and Natural History museum; and exploratory walks through Chinatown and the National Mall. Plus, dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe!

"All of the adults in our party were struck by how respectful, quiet and reverent the students were as they walked through the memorials," Head of Middle School John Turner wrote in a dispatch from D.C.

On the itinerary for day two: Arlington National Cemetery, the U.S. Capitol, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
