Trying Out Chinese Martial Arts

Jack Guo, the instructor from Wu Dang Kungfu Academy in Orange, and two of his students came to Foote on February 24 to demonstrate and teach martial arts. More than 100 students participated in the Hosley Gym, learning about one of the most well-known components of Chinese culture. Lower School Chinese teacher Wenyan Witkowsky organized the special event.  Find more photos on her blog

Walk Like an Egyptian

Fifth graders capped off their study of ancient Egypt on March 3 with Egypt Immersion Day. They dressed up as ancient Egyptians, paraded "Pharaoh Maya" around campus, worked in teams to build play-dough pyramids, constructed a bridge from notecards and enjoyed a parent-provided lunch with foods the Egyptians might have eaten. Check the blogs of teachers Jim Adams, Jake Burt and Adam Solomon for more photos, and click the still frame below to watch a clip of the Pharaoh parade.

From the Faculty Blogs

As part of their Africa unit, Margy Lamere's second graders looked at landmarks in Nairobi and rendered a scratch art skyline.

After learning about the three types of volcanoes, Amanda Diffley's third graders created colorful diagrams of each (pictured).

Head of Lower School Beth Mello has posted video from the recent Grade 4 parent meeting, along with links to resources on executive functioning.
