Happy 100th, Foote!

The whole school came together for a festive birthday party to mark Foote's Centennial on Tuesday - the 100th school day of the 100th year!

The celebration began with Kindergarten and ninth grade buddies parading around campus (undaunted by a driving rain) and into the Hosley gym, where everyone danced the Hokey Pokey and played Pin the Feather on Falco.

Afterward, everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to Foote School and got to enjoy a cupcake and a goody bag filled with bubbles, a lollipop, a Foote pencil and a rubber bracelet that reads, "Happy Birthday Foote." It was a wonderful celebration for our school in a very memorable year. Click here to read a report about the celebration in the New Haven Independent.

It is presented by the Anti-Defamation League. The ADL works against prejudice and hate of any kind.

If students are interested in developing leadership skills and helping our Middle School to be a welcoming and supportive environment for all students, this would be a great workshop to attend. There will be sign-up sheets in Ms. Hansen's and Ms. Williams' rooms.

Playing the Odds at Math Night

Sixth graders hosted Math Night on Wednesday. Parents came to campus to learn about the math curriculum and play games of chance. the students designed as a culmination to their unit on probability. Students created the casino-style games from scratch - many using materials from the recycling bin - and gave them imaginative names such as "Deceptionist Doors," "Spin Die Win," "The Tree Runner" and "Suits of Riches." Each student calculated the probability of players winning their games, and estimated their game's profits and losses. Earlier on Wednesday, students from other grades had a chance to try the games in the Twichell Room.

Foote MathCounts Team Scores Big

Nine Foote students participated in the New Haven chapter MathCounts competition on Saturday, Feb. 6: eighth graders Adin, Eva, Noah, David, Alex, Kyle, Jerry and Fenn, and seventh grader Ting. On the written portion, the school team consisting of Noah, Ting, David and Kyle placed first out of 16 teams. David came in second place overall.

In the "countdown round," David and Ting went head-to-head, with David finishing first and Ting second; Kyle also scored in the top eight. By finishing in the top 25 percent overall, Adin, Eva and Jerry will move on to the state-level competition with the team on March 12. All Foote students finished in the top 40 percent of the field and represented our school with pride.
Congratulations to all!
