Halloween Parade & Fair Schedule
|
|
The annual Halloween Parade and Fair is Friday, Oct. 30. Here is the schedule of events:
-
12:30 p.m. - All School Dismissal. There will be no After School Program, sports practices or play rehearsal. Eighth and ninth graders will remain on campus. Parents of students in grades K-7 are responsible for their children from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m., and again after the parade. If going home between 12:30 and 1:45 will be problematic, parents are welcome to bring lunch and eat with their children at one of the picnic tables on campus.
Kindergarten and Grades 1 & 2 students will return to classrooms after the parade to meet their parents. Parents may then take their children to the fair. Third graders will meet their parents at the hill by the arts building after the parade.
Fourth graders will be dismissed to their parents on the Middle School recess field at the end of the parade.
Fifth, sixth and seventh graders have responsibilities at the fair and will be free to enjoy the fair with parents when their jobs are done.
Eighth and ninth graders will remain on campus after dismissal to set up and decorate. They will need to bring a lunch, and they must stay after the fair to help as the clean up crew. The ninth grade manages the food tables and food sales. Their proceeds go toward a class gift. Pickup is at 5:00 p.m. Tickets for games, food and other fair activities will be sold at the fair. All proceeds from the fair will be donated to Columbus House.
** Please note that the city prohibits parking on the residential side of Loomis Place.

Please Give to the Thanksgiving Food Drive
|
| The sixth grade is coordinating a school-wide Thanksgiving food drive for St. Ann's Soup Kitchen on Dixwell Avenue in Hamden.
We are asking each grade to collect a specific item by Nov. 17 to help fill 200 bags with fixings for a Thanksgiving Day meal. We are also raising money to purchase 25 turkeys. That collection box will be in the main office.
Your donations will help ensure that our neighbors in need have a great Thanksgiving. Thank you! |

Support Foote With Grocery Purchases
|
|
How would you feel if you could donate 5 percent of your weekly Stop & Shop bill to Foote - at no cost to you? Now, guess how much you spend at Stop & Shop throughout the year (shudders!), and imagine donating 5 percent of that total to Foote - again, at no cost to you! You can make this happen simply by using Stop & Shop's "Cash for Causes" gift cards to buy your groceries. Here's how it works: you buy a $100 Stop & Shop "Cash for Causes" gift card from the PTC. You go to Stop & Shop and get $100 worth of groceries. Foote earns $5 from Stop & Shop on the sale of that gift card. Gift cards are available for purchase at the Front Desk or by contacting Vicki Murphy at [email protected].

For Weather Unit, Science Class Takes a Spin
|
|
What is the Coriolis effect, and how does it explain weather patterns on Earth? To learn that, seventh graders in Tim Blauvelt's Environmental Science class took a spin on a homemade contraption to demonstrate how the planet's rotation affects the trajectory of hurricanes and air currents. Click the still frame to watch.

Gladly Will I Carve... |
|
We've all seen some intricately carved pumpkins before, but the jack-o-latern gracing Alexandra Wittner's Kindergarten classroom is something to behold! Alexandra carved Foote's logo into an artificial pumpkin, carefully cutting with a special knife to reveal the oak tree and children. With Foote celebrating its 100th birthday - and a new centennial logo to mark the occasion - Alexandra says it might be time to update the jack-o-lantern for the school's next century.

As we celebrate Foote's Centennial year, we're looking back into the archives to trace the story of our school. Reading and athletics have been a core part of Foote's curriculum since its earliest days and remain so today. Want to dig deeper into Foote history? Check out our Archives blog.
