A Fantastic Grandparents Day

It was a glorious Grandparents Day, with grandparents and special friends coming literally from across the globe to visit children's classrooms and experience the excitement of being a Foote student.

To mark Foote's 100th year, the day had a centennial theme, featuring faculty-led minicourses that explored the school's history and an all-school assembly with songs that were popular in 1916. When the final notes rung out, there seemed to be a smile on every face.

Shelter Drill Next Week

As part of our regular safety and security procedures, we will conduct a shelter drill next week. We refer to this planned exercise as a "shelter drill", as we use the term "lockdown" to connote an actual emergency.

Teachers will be reviewing procedures with students in advance of the drill. Past shelter drills have gone very smoothly, with students responding in a calm and orderly manner.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Carol Maoz, Head of School, or Jay Cox, Business Manager.

School Photo Day - Oct. 20

All Foote students will have their photos taken on campus on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Class photos will also be taken at this time.
  • Every child's photo will be taken for the yearbook.
  • If you would like copies of the photo, you may order a photo package. Please complete the order form that went home inside your school directory on Parents Night. A copy of the order form is also available here.
  • Please enclose the exact amount for the photo package you are ordering, in the form of cash or check made out to "David Frost Photography." If ordering for more than one student, please fill out an order form (and pay separately) for each one.
  • There is a pocket on the PTC bulletin board in the Main Building for completed order forms, or you may deliver your form to your child's teacher.

'What I Learned at Grandparents Day'

On Grandparents Day, fifth grade teacher Jim Adams asked visitors to record a short video saying what they had learned during their day at Foote. Click the image to watch.

Hopping to 10 in Chinese

Chinese teacher Wenyan Witkowsky found a novel way to help second graders learn numbers in Mandarin by using the traditional children's game hopscotch. The maintenance staff recently painted a hopscotch grid outside Main Building and Wenyan wrote the numbers in Chinese with  chalk. Click the image to watch.

Looking Back: Learning and Growing on Saint Ronan Street

The Class of 1945 at the old carriage house at 315 St. Ronan St.
For part two of a Centennial-year series looking back at Foote's history, we explore the period from 1935 - 1957, as Foote grew and expanded against a backdrop of tumultuous world events.

From the Faculty Blogs
A day in Foote's Kindergarten is multifaceted and fun, as Tricia Simon's students can attest.

Jess McKinney's Kindergartners learned about apples (and bees) up close on a visit to Hickory Hill Orchard.

Inspired by their new unit, a few of Grace Peard's first graders made an amazing owl from pattern blocks (pictured).

Lower School students have been busy learning robotics, keyboarding and other tech skills with Julianne Ross-Kleinmann.
