A Visit From the Past
This week, students received a surprise visit from important figures from Foote School's past. School founder Martha Babcock Foote (aka Head of School Carol Maoz), Mrs. Kingsley Blake (aka Curriculum Coordinator Lauren Goldberg) and former New Haven Mayor Frank Rice (aka Assistant Head of Middle School Liam Considine) performed a dramatic skit for every grade about the founding of the school and what life was like in 1916. Students asked thoughtful questions about the period costumes and the reasons Mrs. Foote decided to start her own school.

What I Learned This Summer: Deb Riding

For part two of a series about how Foote faculty spent their summers, Middle School Humanities Co-Chair Deb Riding, who teaches sixth graders about journeys, reflects on a cross-country adventure with her son, Ben.

Looking Back: Mrs. Foote and the Early Years
In celebration of Foote's Centennial this year, Foote alums Kate Reilly Yurkovsky '09 and Caroline Monahan '08 created a Foote history blog during a summer internship in the Alumni and Development Office. The blog features weekly posts with photos and stories drawn from the school archives, named for alumna Anna Huntington Deming '35.

This week's post is the first in a series looking at the founding of Foote in 1916 and its early years. Click here to read more.

At the community garden, Jess McKinney's students talked about - and drew pictures of - their hopes and dreams for Kindergarten (pictured).

Grace Peard's first graders practiced addition and subtraction with a bingo game.

After comparing insects and arachnids, Margy Lamere's second graders created their own with Geoboards.

Jim Adams' fifth graders created movie trailers for a film adaptation of their summer reading book, Under the Egg.

Head of Middle School John Turner has some tips to help parents navigate Parents Night.
