Peering Under the Pond with Aquatic Habitats

This week, first and second graders began to assemble their aquatic habitats to get a look at life under the pond. They added water, sand, gravel, a shelter and Elodea plants to their aquariums
. They made observations and predictions about what would happen over time.

The science unit offers children an opportunity to learn about the adaptations and interactions of organisms within the aquatic habitat. They will investigate the structures and behaviors of each pond organism. As teacher Sue Delaney wrote on her blog, "This hands-on, direct experience is a highly motivating and exciting way to begin learning about underwater worlds."

From the Faculty Blogs

As part of their study of Native Americans, Kim Yap's first and second graders built a wigwam in the classroom (pictured).

Amanda Diffley's third graders faced down some challenging geometry problems.

With spring finally here, check out Margy Lamere's new garden blog to keep up with happenings at Foote's community garden.
