Safety Reminder

We want to remind parents and children to use extra caution when crossing Loomis Place during drop-off and pick up. It is a busy city street and parked cars can often obscure views for both drivers and pedestrians. To ensure safety, we are asking children and parents to observe the following rules:
  • Please cross Loomis Place at the Highland Street crosswalk.
  • Children crossing Loomis Place mid-block must be accompanied by an adult
  • Please do not exceed the speed limit and use caution when driving on Loomis Place.
  • Please enter from Highland Street. Though Loomis Place is a legal two-way street, traffic flows more safely in one direction.
  • Please park on the school side of Loomis Place during drop-off and pick up. Parking on the neighbor side will subject your car to towing.
  • Please inform anyone who picks up your child of this information.
Thank you for helping to keep Foote a safe and vibrant community!

Maroons and Grays Go All Out for Field Day

Rike Field was awash in maroon and gray on Wednesday for Field Day, as students competed in the tug-o-war, baton shuttle relay, sack race, fireman's carry relay and other events. The competition was fierce and school spirit was high as participants went all out for their team. Who won the day? Holding with tradition, students will find out at the annual Yearbook Assembly on Wed., May 21. Find more photos on our Facebook page and on the Lower School and Middle School faculty blogs. Look for a full gallery on our website in the coming days.

'Tree Planting' in the Foote Woods

With spring's arrival, classrooms are expanding into the outdoors. Last week, Kindergartners spent some time planting a 'forest' out of bamboo collected from behind the third grade classrooms. It was a spontaneous exploration, and students carried out the planting with equal parts purpose and play. Find more photos on our Facebook page.

 Making Art and Setting Goals

On exhibit now in the glass case outside the Perrine Library: Japanese Daruma dolls, sometimes called Dharma dolls. Sixth graders made these traditional Japanese dolls, which are modeled after Bodhidharma, credited with founding the Zen sect of Buddhism. Daruma dolls are seen as a symbol of perseverance and good luck, and are often used in goal setting. The artist only paints one eye as a reminder to "keep one eye on the goal." Once that goal is achieved, the artist will paint the other eye as a token of appreciation.

From the Faculty Blogs

Head of Lower School Beth Mello blogs about the delicate and intentional process of dividing students into sections for the next school year.

Head of Middle School John Turner links to video that encourages people to "look up" from their electronic devices.
