Greetings From China!

Ninth graders are on day five of their two-week China trip. They have tried Tai Chi, traditional foods and bargaining with street vendors. As of this writing, they were on an overnight train from Beijing to Xi'an, where they'll spend three days before shipping off to Changsha (home of Yali Middle School), Hong Kong and finally home on March 15. Egypt Immersion Day

Fifth graders celebrated the end of their months-long study of ancient Egypt on March 3 with Egypt Immersion Day. They dressed up as ancient Egyptians, paraded "Pharaoh Grace" around campus, worked in teams to build Play-Doh pyramids and enjoyed a lunchtime feast of dates, chicken pita bread and other Egyptian-themed foods (courtesy of their mummies and daddies.) Click the still frame below for video of the pharaoh parade, and find more photos on the fifth grader teachers' blogs: Jim Adams, Jake Burt and Adam Solomon.

On March 4, Jenny Byers' French students in grades 4, 5, 7 and 8 celebrated Mardi Gras. They made their own masks (masques) or jester hats (chapeaux du buffon), ate King Cake (gteau du roi), and wore necklaces in the traditional Mardi Gras colors of purple (for justice), gold (for power) and green (for faith.) Lost in Space With Mr. Willis

With two physical education teachers chaperoning the China trip, retired athletic director Ted Willis returned to Loomis Place this week as a substitute teacher for gym classes. Mr. Willis (pictured at left) had his classes play 'Lost in Space,' an original obstacle-course game he frequently played to develop children's agility during his 43 years at Foote. Mr. Willis, who retired last year, was assisted by Athletic Director Brad McGuire and After School Program Assistant Director Bill Manke. Below are a few photos of Kindergarteners learning the game.
