Olympic Fever Hits Foote
At last fall's Halloween Fair, a fifth grader won Business Manager Jay Cox in the "Win a Teacher" raffle. She asked him to throw her class a pizza party. But Mr. Cox had other ideas: a Winter Olympics party complete with ice cream sundaes and miniature versions of the ski jump, slalom course and ice hockey. Mr. Cox made good on his debt this past Tuesday when he helped transform Adam Solomon's classroom into Little Sochi. Students sent projectiles off the ski jump and measured the distance traveled (120 "meters" was the record). They used a magnet to move a paperclip through the slalom gates while Mr. Solomon used a stopwatch to time them (the course record was 3.59 seconds). And they faced off on a Stiga Stanley Cup table hockey game. Mr. Cox, who started at Foote as a fifth grade teacher, even brought in a giant set of wooden Olympic rings that he made to give the games an authentic feel. By day's end, everyone felt like a champion. For more photos, check out our Facebook page.
