ParentsSeeking Parent Input
The Foote School faculty and administration routinely review the different disciplines through the Curricular Review Process. The objective is to identify opportunities to enhance the programs offered to children at Foote. In a similar fashion, the Mixed Age Group structure (as a combined 1st and 2nd grade) is periodically reviewed.

In the coming months, we will be inviting parents who have had children in the program (past or present) to come in to share their experiences with Mixed Age Group. If you are interested in sharing your thoughts, please schedule a time with either Carol Maoz, Head of School, or Beth Mello, Lower School Head, by contacting Erika Villa at 203-777-3464 x208, or [email protected]. We look forward to hearing your feedback.
FamilyFunThanks for a Great Family Fun Day!
Thanks to all the families who made Foote Family Fun Day a big success this year! Dozens of kids and parents came out this past Sunday, Sept. 15, for an afternoon of barbecuing, face painting, games, arts and crafts and giant bubbles, courtesy of science teacher Tim Blauvelt. And the weather was perfect! Click here for more photos.

Invitations
If your child plans to bring a special friend in place of a grandparent, let us know so we can send an invitation. Please send the special friend's name and mailing address to Maria Granquist in the Development Office, at [email protected].

Please Volunteer
Grandparents Day volunteers are still needed, so if you can donate a few hours of your time - either on Thurs., Oct. 10 from 12-3, or Fri., Oct. 11, from 8:30-12:30 - please contact Maria Granquist at [email protected].
PTCPTC News

Thank you to all the families who have signed up their Stop & Shop cards with the A+ Rewards Program this year. Foote School earns a tiny percentage of your purchases every time you shop.  If you have not registered your card yet (and you must do so every year), click here to enter your 13-digit card number and designate The Foote School as your choice. Our school code is 08832. Or email Foote's Stop & Shop coordinator, Vicki Murphy, with your Stop & Shop card number and your last name.

Another way to help Foote School is to use Stop & Shop gift cards, purchased thru the PTC, to pay for your groceries every time you shop. Here's how it works: In exchange for your $100 check made out to the Foote PTC, you will receive a $100 Stop & Shop gift card, and Foote will earn $5. Imagine how much money you could donate to Foote this year just by paying for your groceries in a different way! Gift cards are available for purchase at the Front Desk or from Vicki Murphy. Email Vicki with questions or to arrange to get gift cards at pickup time.

Meeting a Magical Inventor

Third graders traveled to West Cornwall on Sept. 16 to the home of artist Tim Prentice, a "kinetic sculptor" who makes amazing mobiles. Kids marveled at a heat-activated mobile that moved when they stood beneath it and went still the moment they stepped away. Tim showed the Foote visitors his workshop (in a 240-year-old old ice house) and the barn where he displays and packages his creations to ship all over the world. Third graders, who are studying inventors, will make Prentice-style mobiles from milk jugs and plastic funnels on Arts Day, Sept. 27. Click here for more photos.

Building With Marshmallows and Spaghetti

Third graders also took part in the STEM Marshmallow challenge last week. Devised by designer Peter Skillman and based on a TED Talk, the exercise challenges pairs of students to build a freestanding structure with a marshmallow on top using only 20 sticks of spaghetti, a yard of string and masking tape - in 18 minutes or less!  Julianne Ross-Kleinmann, the Lower School Technology Coordinator, says the lesson teaches kids about engineering design and how to work collaboratively. No two structures were alike - click here to see them all.
