A Spirited Start to the School Year

The weather was gloomy but spirits were bright for the first day of school on Tuesday. Head of School Carol Maoz greeted arriving students and parents, who then headed off to meet their teachers and classmates. Students reconnected with old friends and made some new ones. First-day jitters gave way to excitement as students played games, explored the Community Garden and settled into the rhythm of another school year.

Curriculum News
From Lauren Goldberg, Curriculum Coordinator

At The Foote School, every area of curriculum is regularly reviewed as part of a five-year cycle. During the 2012-2013 school year, we undertook a comprehensive examination of our English/Language Arts program. Surveys were distributed to faculty, current parents and alumni. Responses were instrumental as we engaged in our curricular review.

This year, we will be conducting a similar review of our mathematics and learning support programs. Next week, surveys related to the math program will be distributed electronically. We are eager to collect responses from as many members of our community as possible. Thank you in advance for your participation and input.

Read more about the curriculum review process here.

Family Fun Day
Family Fun Day is Sept. 15, from 12-3 p.m. - and volunteers are needed! Click here to sign up. (Note: the Art Calendar incorrectly lists the start time as 1 p.m.)

Bag Rewards for Foote School

Do you buy groceries at Stop & Shop? Do you want to help the Foote School save money? Then it's time to register your Stop & Shop card to earn A+ School Rewards for Foote. You must re-register every year (Stop & Shop's rule, not ours). Please take 30 seconds to click here and sign up. Our school code is 08832, or you can select "The Foote School" (alphabetized under "The") from the New Haven, CT list. Or email the PTC's Stop & Shop coordinator, Vicki Murphy, with your Stop & Shop card number and your last name and she will sign you up. Once your card is registered, you will earn money for Foote every time you shop with your card. It will NOT affect Gas Points or other promotions. Encourage relatives and friends to register their cards, too. Thanks!
