An Important Message About May Day

While a final decision has not been made yet, based on the latest reports it seems likely that this year's May Day festivities will be held in the Hosley Gymnasium.

To ensure all goes as smoothly as possible, we are asking parents to gather in the gym lobby until we are able to open the doors, to allow teachers the time and space to get the children settled into their spots in the gym.

May Day will begin at 11 a.m. We are grateful to all Foote parents for helping ensure a successful May Day in spite of the weather!

An important reminder: please do not park on the residential side of Loomis Place, in designated handicapped parking areas, or near the fire hydrant. Thank you!

(In case of rain, the PTC's May Day picnic will be held in the theater. Pizza, wraps, and drinks will be for sale.)

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS AND INFORMATION

Model Congress

Preparing
Presenting
A fabulous finish!

On Sat., May 18, 36 Foote School students (a contingent consisting of 28 delegates presenting 19 pieces of legislation and eight ninth graders chairing four committees) attended the Packer Collegiate Institute's Model Congress. The day was very successful and our students were excellent ambassadors for our school. By the end of the day, 16 of our bills passed. Those that did not pass, did however, inspire lively debate - which is the real goal for the legislation.

Some noteworthy news:

A Foote bill ( An Act to Ban First Responder Fees) was selected by the House Agriculture and Interior Committee for debate in the full session where it was passed after spirited debate.

Ten Foote School students were given Honorable Mention for Best Legislator in their respective committees. One Foote student was awarded a Golden Gavel for Best Legislator.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF FOOTE

Yearbook Assembly

This year's Yearbook Assembly was a touching reminder of the importance tradition plays in a Foote School education.  Athletic Director Ted Willis told the audience that the Foote trophy awarded to the winning team at Field Day first appeared in 1977, and that both the grey and the maroon teams had won Field Day 18 times. This begged the question, who was this year's winner? The tie-breaker: maroon!

The yearbook staff dedicated this year's book to Ted, who retires in June. "We are always excited to get to the gym, and sad to leave," one of the student yearbook editors told the audience. Then they turned to Ted and said, "We love you, Mr. Willis."

A New Playground

Students were introduced this week to the newest play area at Foote, behind the Jonathan Milikowsky Science and Technology Building.  The playscape, built by Environment Design LLC of Milford, includes slides, monkey bars, gathering spaces for imaginative play, and, to come, a log balance beam, tire and rope swing, a zipline, and a creative conglomeration of cargo nets and vertical timbers wrapped with hoses for children to climb.
