May Day is Almost Here!

Please join us for Foote's annual celebration of spring!

On Fri., May 24, all grade levels will present a traditional English or Irish dance, including the third grade Maypole Dance and the ninth grade Sleights Sword Dance. Please join us on Rike Field on Highland Street (or, in case of inclement weather, in the Hosley Gymnasium), at 11 a.m.

Boys: white or khaki dress pants (no jeans, sweatpants, warm-up pants or shorts), solid-color button-down or golf shirt (no T-shirts or sweatshirts), clean sneakers that may be tied tightly.

Girls: spring-colored dress or skirt and blouse or pantsuit (no black, please.) Again, no jeans, sweatpants, warm-up pants, shorts, T-shirts, or sweatshirts) and clean sneakers that may be tied tightly. Girls in third grade and up may bring sandals to wear when not dancing.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF FOOTE

Holocaust Survivor Visits Foote

Eighth graders heard Holocaust survivor Betty Knoop, who lived in Holland during the Nazi occupation of World War II and was confined at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in what is now northwest Germany, speak of her experiences on Wed., May 15 in the Sandine Theater.  Betty visited Foote as a guest of Foote parent and board member Glenn Levin, whose mother has been a close friend for many years. Betty detailed her time at Bergen-Belsen as a 12-year-old, and although she is now in her 80s, recalled specific dates of pivotal moments without pause, including the day she was liberated: April 23, 1945. After the war, she returned to school in Amsterdam. She left Holland for good five years later, boarding a ship that brought her to New York, which she has called home for the past six decades.
