The 50 States Fair

The 50 States Fair attracted a crowd of parents, students, friends and faculty to the small gym Mon., May 6 to hear fourth graders share their research.  Students selected a state in early April, and researched their choice's resources, tourist attractions, history, native foods, topographical attributes and more.

"It's their first time presenting in front of the whole school," says fourth grade teacher Denise Quinn. "They also learn to share information in a meaningful way." The students learned how to handle multiple projects, in this case creating a map, a poster, an individualized project that sometimes took the form of a game board featuring state highlights, and a persuasive letter to the president of the United States stating why their particular state is more important than all others.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF FOOTE

Kindergarten Math Morning

Kindergarten parents gathered at 8 a.m. Mon., May 6 in the kindergarten rooms to work on math challenges with their children. Math Morning was shorter this year due to a change in format: Math Specialist Heather Zetterberg will talk to parents about the foundations of the math program on Mon., May 20 at the Kindergarten-to-MAG transition meeting to be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Perrine Library. "Parents were delighted and grateful that we made the change, which allowed more of them to attend before moving forward with their day," said Heather. "We had a very nice turnout."
