Adam Gidwitz at Mauro-Sheridan Magnet School
|
Dear Parents,
This year's Book Fair was extraordinary! Besides its obvious impact on our own Foote students, its wonders spread beyond Foote's campus, aided by the organizers of the Book Fair, Sue Wildridge, Christin Sandweiss, and Angie Hurlbut. Thanks to their efforts, students at a New Haven magnet school, Mauro-Sheridan, were treated to an appearance by Adam Gidwitz, author of "A Tale Dark and Grimm." Mauro-Sheridan's students created a spooky backdrop for Adam's presentation, and they all read his book before the visit. Foote parents who attended the event at Mauro-Sheridan reported back that he was treated like a rock star - awestruck children gingerly touching his jacket as if they were committing the very act to memory.
The effort was part of Read to Grow, a literacy non-profit organization headquartered in Branford that our Book Fair supports. I want to sincerely thank the organizers of the Book Fair. I also want to thank all the parents who so generously bought books at the fair, fulfilling the teachers' wish lists and adding books to our classrooms, as well as providing books to the various New Haven schools involved in Read to Grow. You are making such a difference in the lives of New Haven children, and I know I speak for everyone here at Foote in expressing how very grateful we are to you.
