CAIS Accreditation Team's Visit to Foote
| | |
The six-member CAIS Accreditation Team spent three days at Foote, visiting classes, talking to faculty, staff, and parents, as well as meeting with our Student Council and sharing lunch with a third grade class.
The team was extremely impressed with our focus on the whole child, our diversity, the quality of our faculty and staff, our curriculum, and our communication. While we will not receive the report until January or February, I can share that we earned high marks for the building project, and especially for our comprehensive and challenging program that truly reflects our motto, Gladly Will I Learn and Gladly Teach, and our mission.
The visit was a wonderful opportunity for us to share the treasures and joys of our community with a team of independent school educators from across Connecticut.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF FOOTE
| | |
|
|
Days at Deer Lake
| | |
The three-day, two-night fifth grade trip to Deer Lake Scout Reservation in Killingworth is a truly memorable event for students in the last year of lower school. The reservation's 253 acres serve as a laboratory and learning center for the fifth graders, whose excitement was audible this past Wednesday. "Oh my gosh I found a newt!," exclaimed one, grasping a net with one hand and hurrying toward a group crowded around containers holding their respective finds. As the group watched the goings-on in the containers, one student noticed a certain behavior: "The big spider is eating the little spider," she cried. Everyone crowded around for a look. "It's all part of the circle of life," teacher Jim Adams said to the students.
Rock climbing, archery, canoeing, hiking, fishing, night walks, making outdoor survival kits, and a campfire are just some of the activities enjoyed by the campers. "This is the capstone event for the lower school," said teacher Adam Solomon. "It brings everyone together for a shared experience."
| "They are looking for anything that crawls or moves or oozes," said camp facilitator Ted Elton. |
