Celebrating the New Building
and a New Year at Foote!

Sun., Sept. 9 marked a momentous day for The Foote School as we dedicated and celebrated the opening of the Jonathan Milikowsky Science and Technology Building. Kindergartners and ninth graders together helped cut the green ribbon and welcomed everyone inside for tours.

The ribbon cutting was a special highlight of the Parent Teacher Council (PTC)'s Fall Family Fun Day which brought the Foote community on campus with a potluck picnic, baked goods, and games on the playing field adjacent to the new building.

Here are some photos from the day. To view more, please visit the photo gallery on our website.

A Special Assembly

The entire school gathered in the Hosley Gymnasium on Tues., Sept. 11, for our first All School Assembly of the year. Chinese guest teacher, Gao Jun, was introduced to the student body and expressed his joy and excitement in returning to Foote in this capacity.  Foote's mascot, Falco, also made an energetic guest appearance, helping the ninth grade convey Foote's new common language, Falco's Pride (P=perseverance R= respect I= integrity D= dependability E= excellence). Finally, following Foote tradition, ninth graders bestowed stuffed falcons upon kindergartners, much to the younger children's delight.

Middle School Activities Sign-Up

Today, Thurs., Sept. 13, middle school activities leaders presented descriptions of each activity. Students are encouraged to sign up for one or more activities, while being mindful of their commitments. The sign-up sheet should be completed, signed by both student and a parent, and returned to the student's homeroom advisor by next Tues., Sept. 18. Sign-up sheets and descriptions of each activity can be downloaded here

Help Foote With Stop & Shop Cards

Do you want to help Foote earn free money? Do you buy groceries? Please consider participating in both of these Stop & Shop programs:

aplus

1) Register your Stop & Shop card with the A+ School Rewards Program, and every time you shop you earn money for Foote. Even if you registered last year, you must re-register this year to participate. Click here to enter your 13-digit Stop & Shop card number and designate The Foote School as your choice. Our school code is 08832. Or email Foote's Stop & Shop coordinator,  Vicki Murphy, with your Stop & Shop card number and your last name.

2) Use Stop & Shop gift cards, purchased through the PTC, to pay for your groceries every time you shop. For every $100 gift card you buy, you get $100 worth of groceries, and Foote earns $5. This is free money for Foote at no cost to you! Gift cards are available for purchase at the Front Desk or from Vicki Murphy. Look for Vicki before afternoon pickup time near the MAG classrooms or in the library.

Grandparents Day Update

Grandparents Day invitations have been sent to many Foote grandparents and some special friends for those whose grandparents cannot attend. On Fri., Oct. 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., grandparents are invited to visit grandchildren's classes, take a minicourse or school tour, and enjoy an All School Assembly.

Invitations
If you'd like to invite a special friend or you didn't include grandparents' addresses on the student information form in your summer packet, please send the information to Maria Granquist in the Development Office, and we'll send an invitation directly. Please encourage your child's guests to RSVP early so we can prepare a schedule for their visit. Since we anticipate that more than 400 grandparents will attend, we cannot accommodate parent visitors to classes that day. Everyone is welcome at the assembly, of course!

Please Volunteer
Volunteers are needed on Grandparents Day to make the event run smoothly. Whether you can spare a few hours or the whole morning, we would appreciate your assistance welcoming grandparents, leading them to classes, arranging refreshments, and helping with other tasks. We'll hold an orientation session for anyone who would like to know more about the campus. And if Oct. 12 isn't a good day for you to volunteer, please come to help set up in the Hosley Gym on Thurs., Oct. 11, between 12:30 and 3 p.m.

E-mail Amy Caplan if you are able to volunteer. It's a wonderful occasion, and you will enjoy being part of making it happen!
