Issue No. 0813
August  2013
Greetings!

Summer is quickly coming to an end which means it's time for the HPT to kick into gear for late-summer, early-fall, typically our busiest time of the year. Coming up this weekend will be the Arts Market, the Atlantic Coast WNBF National Qualifier Bodybuilding Competition, and Arts Splash, followed by the Friends of the HP Theatre special 25th Anniversary Cabaret: What I Did for Love, on Thursday - Saturday, Aug. 22-24, and HopFest, an outdoor "downtown jam" concert, on the 24th.

We were deeply saddened to learn that the NC Shakes Board of Trustees had decided to suspend operations for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the impact on our community and state for the loss of such a highly respected professional arts group and, of course, the personal impact on many of our friends within the organization. With no Mainstage production coming up in September, the Theatre will have dates available for those looking for a venue to hold a reception, reunion or other community-related event.

In early October, we kick off our 2013-2014 Passport to Entertainment series with Gary Wright & Rick Derringer on the 5th, followed by An Evening with Mark Russell on the 12th. With 15 professional concerts, rib-tickling comedians and holiday themed shows throughout the season, we're offering the most exciting and diverse line up in the Theatre's 38-year history. Tickets are on sale now and, by getting your tickets early, you can grab some of the best seats in the house!

Thank you for your continued support...we look forward to seeing you soon at the HP Theatre!
David Briggs
Sincerely,

David Briggs, Director

Friends of the Theatre Announce Volunteer of the Year, Scholarship Recipients and 2014 Board Members

Forty-two FOT volunteers and invited guests gathered at the Theatre on June 24th for the group's annual dinner and recognition ceremony, shining the spotlight on the dedicated service of their individual members. For the second year in a row, Cynatha Carroll was awarded the prestigious Volunteer of the Year award. Her willingness to serve in any capacity requested of her, warm and inviting personality and total hours spent assisting with events, earned her the title once again. The organization also awarded two scholarships to assist students with their studies in the arts - Sara Scott and Caleb Ziegler were the recipients of those scholarships.

The FOT Board for 2014 has just been announced and will consist of: Jane Blackwell - President, John Kapsar - Vice President, Holly Davis - Treasurer, and Lucille Hurley - Secretary.

Congratulations everyone on a job well done, and thank you for your outstanding service! If you would like information on serving as a volunteer, please contact House Manager Karen Rimmer at (336) 883-3625 or karen.rimmer@highpointnc.gov. Friends of the High Point Theatre Presents Annual Fundraiser, Cabaret 2013, August 22-24

Mention "Cabaret" and Triad residents immediately think of the Friends of the High Point Theatre and the group's exciting annual fundraiser. This year the Friends of the Theatre will be celebrating 25 years of bringing this fun-filled, entertainment-rich gala to High Point and surrounding communities with a special Cabaret performance entitled "What I Did for Love." Shows are scheduled nightly, Thursday through Saturday, August 22-24, at 7:30 PM.

Cabaret Group The Vocal Chords

The Vocal Chords, an outstanding ensemble of local singers and musicians will perform love-themed classics such as What the World Needs Now, Love Me Tender, and Put a Little Love in Your Heart, plus many more of your favorite tunes. A number of local restaurants, including Gianno's and Sumela, have generously donated refreshments for the event, while center pieces provided by Paper and Party Place will make the tables fitting for such a grand occasion. Door prizes are being provided by Gray's Jewelers and Penny Path Cafe and Crepe Shop.

With the audience members seated on stage with the performers and, due to the very limited seating available, this annual fundraiser has been one of the theatre's most popular events, resulting in a sell-out year after year! General admission tickets are $15 for nightclub-style seating on stage at tables of 8, and includes refreshments and punch. A cash bar will be available to purchase wine for those who wish to do so.

To reserve a table* or to purchase individual tickets, please call the High Point Theatre box office at (336) 887-3001 during regular business hours (Mon-Fri, 12 noon-5 pm) or visit our website at

www.highpointtheatre.com. (*Please note that tables will not be reserved for parties of fewer than 8.)
Thank you sponsors!

We would like to say a very special "thank you" to our Corporate sponsors for 2013-2014. Without you, it would be almost impossible to bring the outstanding performances that we are currently offering to the Triad community!
