Summer in the City is a new series introducing APA LA's members to the latest innovative, proactive planning in cities around the Los Angeles region. Between June and September, we'll visit several cities whose staff will lead tours, site visits, and presentations that showcase their planning and community development efforts.
On August 21, the third in the series will take us to Santa Monica. We'll explore downtown Santa Monica's return to a transit terminus and the projects transforming the area into a multi-modal hub. We will then stroll to award-winning Tongva Park and continue conversation at an ocean view bar for drinks and snacks, ending the evening on Santa Monica Pier for a Twilight Concert with The Zombies.
Visit LA-APA.org for recaps of our previous Summer in the City events in Inglewood and Duarte!

What is the Envision Infrastructure Rating System? What is meant by the "triple bottom line"?
There's no better introduction to this emerging standard for public works projects than the South Los Angeles Wetlands. This landmark project transformed a former MTA bus yard into a community wildlife resource, an innovative model for stormwater management and stakeholder partnering. It is also one of two projects nationwide that have been awarded Platinum designation under the Envision Infrastructure Rating System. Learn about Envision as a planning toolkit and a rating system.
Join Sean Vargas, P.E., ENV SP, LEED AP, as he walks us through the Envision application process after the fact, and why Envision is worth championing.

APA YEPP PRESENTS:
Torrance Brewery Talk & Tour
Saturday, August 30
11:30 AM
Smog City Brewing
1901 Del Amo Blvd., Ste. B
Torrance, CA 90501
RSVP requested
Join APA LA's Young & Emerging Planning Professionals (YEPP) for a visit to two Torrance breweries! We'll begin at Smog City Brewing, where representatives of Smog City and the City of Torrance will speak about their experiences in the planning, permitting, and environmental processes and Torrance's evolution into a craft beer destination:
Laurie Porter, co-owner and sales heart of Smog City, fosters community relationships and builds Smog City's presence and reputation. Laurie oversees Smog City Brewery's sales, marketing and distribution. If Smog City is pouring, she's probably not far away.
Danny Santana is in his 14th year as a City Planner with the City of Torrance Community Development Department. He currently oversees the Current and Environmental Planning Division and is the lead planner on most things "Green." When not helping local craft breweries obtain their permits, he enjoys being an Adjunct Professor of Environmental Planning and Policy at LMU.
After visiting Smog City, we'll walk to Monkish Brewing for informal drinks and networking.
