BBDF AWARDS $1.75 MILLION GRANT
Continuing Research at Texas Children's Hospital
Missy and Will Herndon, on behalf of BBDF, presented a $1.75 million check to the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, TX. The check represents a three-year grant to explore whether the pharmacological activation of TFEB can be used to activate the lysosomal system and promote cellular clearance in juvenile Batten disease and slow disease progression. This grant builds on the research discoveries from the $2.5 million award from Jim and Cherie Flores and BBDF in 2008 that resulted in 6 potential drug compounds.
